Contrary to what is posted on our meetup home page, we are rarely 'based' in Birmingham. In fact, our meetups are located all around the southeastern Michigan area, including Detroit suburbs (Livonia, Taylor, Novi, Troy, Utica), Ann Arbor, Flint, Birch Run, Goodrich, etc.
We are a group of like-minded every day normal people and families networking and striving to learn and share knowledge and resources to be prepared for emergency situations. This meetup’s focus is on learning survival and sustainable SKILLS …because the more you know the less you need. Please come join us… it’s free, so you have nothing to lose and knowledge and friendships to gain by attending our events.
So what is a “Prepper”? Typically, someone who prepares for emergencies so they won’t be forced to rely on others to survive. Ideally, someone who strives to be as self-reliant as possible. A Prepper’s Motto: “We hope for the best, yet prepare for the worst”.
What are we preparing for? Short answer: Life!
Long answer: Anything that could happen to disrupt our fun or affect the normal routine in our daily life: Job loss, illness, house fire, auto accident, natural disasters, economic collapse, World War III, end of the world as we know it, anything, everything!
As we look at our world today, our future seems uncertain. We have indeed lost many of the “basics” known and practiced by our forefathers. We have become dependent on imperfect fragile life-supporting technologies and infrastructures which are highly interdependent such that the loss of one causes loss of others. Further, they seem to not be operated in our best interest, rather, the interests of big corporations. Thus, there is a need to return to a respectful knowledge of the land and become self reliant.
Disaster Preparedness is no longer a mentality reserved for the subculture Survivalist. This awareness is quickly becoming mainstream phenomenon as people from all walks of life begin to embrace the reality of the statement: It’s not IF a disaster will strike, but when. In the few moments you have just before disaster strikes, your preparedness level will define the rest of your life. Take your chances or take control… ignorance is not bliss… be aware!
Question: What if a major emergency never happens? What if you gather these supplies and skills but never need them? Will your efforts be in vain? Answer: Consider yourself fortunate. You were prepared for the worse and the best happened. At a minimum, you could sleep better at night, secure in the knowledge that you would have food on the table regardless of what happened in the world. That is not a waste of time. So, Prepping is insurance… Like you have your Car, Home, Health, or Life insurances, Prepping is SHTF insurance! …a “don’t die” policy …a “standard of living” policy …it is the price for Peace of Mind.
By joining our meetup group you accept full responsibility for your own actions. We reserve the right to decline or remove anyone from membership for any reason. We are a public outreach meetup related to preparedness, survival, homesteading, or sustainable living …for come what may. We do not want extremist or hate groups, and we do not discriminate against age, gender, race, religion, etc.
