Inaugural Meeting - The Value of Software Testing

For this inaugural meeting, Keith Klain, AST board member, will come talk to the group about AST (Association for Software Testing) and how to articulate your value as a tester. We'll then open the floor to the group for a broader discussion about training and education for testers. "Educating Testers - what's the best way and what are the best skills?"

Beer and Pizza included... how can you miss this?

I enjoyed the meeting and thought it was valuable.

My main takeaway is the idea that the mission of testing is to expose information at several levels.

Let's say finding issues is the concrete level.
Quantifying and tracking the test process is the first meta-level.
Keith points out that we have to be careful about getting too trapped in these levels.

I have already had a great opportunity to bring this message, in a QE management meeting here at Vistaprint, and I am very heartened to find that the senior leadership here are able to have this discussion and that they're already thinking at the second meta-level (how to improve the quantification and tracking of the test process, are our metrics any darn good, and so on.)

Is this an appropriate group to discuss behavior driven development?

Hi Steve; As one of the organizers of this group, my instinct is no this is not. My original intent was to have this meet up group discuss testing issues, testing leadership, test techniques, test design etc. We're not a development group but we welcome developers to join in our discussions.

Thank you for asking though, as it's greatly appreciated. Maybe we can have a topic on testing where BDD is implemented.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
