Greater Charlotte Area WordPress Group March Meetup
Update 3/27 (day before) We will be covering 'How to Create a Custom WordPress Theme'
No programming or web design experience is necessary. Bring your laptops if you've got em, this will be a hands on guided or mentored tutorial type of a session. :)
I'll be demonstrating my preferred wordpress theme design software for this, you can check it out before the meetup and/or download a free trial if you like (not required by any means) However, the design environment and the resulting theme files will definitely help people understand what goes into a wordpress theme design.

With the creation of the Charlotte Area WordPress Enthusiasts group, we hope to host regular events at rotating locations around the Greater Charlotte area and in Charlotte itself. The events will be designed to cover topics of interest in small focused working groups. The goal of these events will be to help attendees get hands on experience at the actual event, while peers or mentors are on hand to guide them.
The topics of these events can include:
- Learn How to setup WordPress,
- Optimize it for Search Engine Performance,
- Design Custom Themes,
- Deploy or modify free themes,
- share best practices & tips,
- meet other WordPress users and network,
- Learn how to earn money from your web publishing efforts for yourself, your business or your group or organization.
We're new so please don't hesitate to ask or suggest more ideas!

Keep us posted on the location decision. I have a weekly horseback lesson that's usually at 1pm but I'll try to reschedule that earlier to be at both events. Gaston is a hike from Waxhaw barn though! :( I really want to be there to support you & learn about WP. Not sure if I'll be able to pull it off though. Any chance of moving things closer to town?

Ganti Murty, whom I first met at the SEO meetup and then again at the Webdesign meetup in Charlotte, has graciously offered for us to meet at his spa.

) I'm scoping it out tomorrow. :)The Spa has wifi & a large 45" TV which will demo & mentor tutorials so everyone can follow along. We'll show people how to design WordPress Themes Saturday.
No experience in html, css or php is necessary (but some experience with ftp uploading will help).

Hi Brett,
As a followup: I really liked the way every one interacted after the presentation. 1) I am hoping that every one using the WordPress for some time to post the plug-ins they are using and what they like about them, the version they used and the WordPress version they installed on.
2)URL's for good Tutorial sites.

BrettEvent HostOrganizerWe had a great crowd for our first meetup. Ganti provided a fantastic location to meet at his spa, which had plenty of seating, wifi, and a great wide screen tv for presentations. :) The meetup lasted about 90 minutes and a large number of people stuck around for up to an hour after wards to talk more and help each other with a number of other tasks.

Will Douglass DavisI loved the demonstration of of Artisteer. It make creating a theme for WordPress a breeze. You did a great job in explaining all of the various feature of artisteer and I will further investigate this when an Apple version comes out. I did not get to hear the full demonstration and I hope you post the seminar on the web as I had a three o'clock appointment. My problem is I don't know WordPress and I am hoping that you have a demonstration for those of us who would like to use WordPress but don't know where to begin.

I'm still working on location details for the 1st event. I have looked into using the Gaston Regional Library mtng room. There is plenty of seating, tables & presentation tools, but limited internet access (wired for 2-3 people). The price is very cheap!
I'd definitely like to cover designing custom themes & showing you how to do this, which would provide a consistent transition for talking about the most popular poll topic, Using WP for a business content management system.
