This group is intended to be a meeting place for anybody in the Charlottesville-Staunton-Harrisonburg area who enjoys card games, board games, miniatures games, roleplaying games, or war games. Everybody is welcome.
Ready to jump right in and meet a group of local gamers at a public venue?
We currently have a weekly Saturday night game session from 5 PM to 8 PM (and sometimes later) at Cville's Hobbies Games and Toys in downtown Charlottesville. One table will consist of games mentioned in the meetup title (no experience for these games is necessary), and the other tables are for any type of game you'd like to bring. Check the event's comments for an idea of other games people are bringing, and if they prefer a certain experience level.
Own a game and looking for players?
Hit "Suggest a Meetup" on the main group page to start a meetup, or hit the discussion button and start a discussion. Please check out "Tips for suggesting a meetup" below.
Want to play a game you don't own?
Go to "Discussion" and choose the discussion titled "Game Collections." Browse different members' game collections, and if you see a game you'd like to try, message the owner to see if he/she will post a meetup for the game or bring it to the Saturday game night. You can click on any game in the game lists and it will take you to a site with reviews, pictures, and more information about the game. You can also start a new discussion.
Tips for suggesting a meetup.
1. The group caters to many types of games, so for ease of identification, please designate your meetup by game type and game according to the categories below.
Example: Board Game (Classic): Scrabble
Here are the game categories:
Board Game (Classic). These are the well known board games (you can usually find them at Target/Toys R Us). Examples: Monopoly, Rummikub, Scrabble
Board Game (Other). These are the less known board games (you usually can't find them at Target/Toys R Us). Examples: Agricola, Puerto Rico, Ticket to Ride
Card Game (Classic). These are the well known card games (you can usually find them at Target/Toys R Us). Examples: Phase 10, Rook, Uno
Card Game (Other). These are the less known card games (you usually can't find them at Target/Toys R Us). Examples: Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, San Juan
War Game (Classic). These are wargames that use counters, blocks, or plastic units and are played on a gameboard. Examples: Advanced Squad Leader, Combat Commander, Tide of Iron.
War Game (Miniatures). These are wargames that use miniatures and are played on a tabletop rather than a typical game board. Examples: Fields of Glory, Warmachine, Warhammer
Roleplaying Game. Examples: Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds
2. It would be helpful to include a link to the game's website or the game's boardgamegeek.com page, so others can see if it's a game they'd like to try, get an idea of how long the game will take, and sometimes download the rulebook. You can also list your experience level with the game (beginner, intermediate, advanced), and what experience level you prefer for other players. For example: Carcassonne (My exp: intermediate; Your exp: any).
3. To avoid overbooking, please set the RSVP to the number of players you'd like or to the number that the game allows.
Happy gaming!
