Group Picnic !

This location is shown only to members

It's time we all got together for a picnic! Maggie has been kind enough to allow us to use her expansive back yard in Southeast Denver.

More details to come!

All 220+ members are invited. Bring the kids, chairs, inventions / contraptions you'd like to show off, and something home-made like a family dish, something from the garden, some cheese, bread, canned goods, or whatever you like.

Journalists and bloggers are welcome to come, but Maggie has asked that you not mention her by name, or the location of the event, which is at a private residence. Thank you for understanding.

No Dogs, sorry.

Cheers,

Everett

Hey, maybe I will bring some of my lacto-fermented veggie dip! (Eat at your own risk, LOL) Can't wait to see everyone and share this seasons progress.

Monica you're more than welcome to bring some lacto dip, or even give a demo at the picnic. That goes for anyone - if you want to teach a little mini-class then bring the stuff you need (no kitchen available) and I'm sure there will be people interested in learning. My wife will probably bring some wool, a drop spindle and a few knitting needles if anyone wants to learn how to do that. I'll probably bring a cheese press & some of the cheese we make at the previous week's cheesemaking class.

    Parking:
The People's Choice Bank just south of Maggie?s house, on the NE corner of Clay and Evans, is closed. This might be a good place to park, as it is a vacant lot. There is also a King?s Super parking lot right across from Maggie?s house, and I don?t think anyone would notice if there were a few extra cars in there. There is also some parking available on Clay street, but just make sure you?re not parking in the bus stop zone.

    Food:
Everyone should just bring whatever they want to eat and drink, or whatever they want to share with everyone else. This is a potluck picnic. Homemade stuff would be great, but if you?re short on time and just want to stop by KFC or something that?s fine too. Some plates and utensils would be good too, but you don?t need to bring many, as I?ll be picking up a package. Unless you want to use real ceramic plates and metal utensils to cut down on waste, in which case you should bring your own

    Cleanup:
I?ll be staying after to help Maggie clean up. Anyone is welcome to do so, and I hope we can leave ?Maggie?s farm? (isn?t that a Bob Dylan song?) the way it was before we had the picnic. There should be a few trash cans available for use, but if you want to bring your own trash bag that would be great. She only has roadside pickup so if anyone has a dumpster available to them and a truck to use they could take a bag with them.

    Entertainment:
You are welcome to bring any demonstration items you want. I will be testing out a solar oven, and will probably bring a cheese press in case anyone wants to see how easy it would be to make one. Monica is doing a fermentation demonstration. Feel free to bring your guitar, banjo, harmonica... Or if that doesn?t work out we?ll just turn on the radio.

    Chickens and Ducks:
Maggie has chickens and ducks. They?ll be locked down in their own area, but if you?re concerned about bio security, please stand in an inch of bleach water before coming over and when you get back to your house. One cap full of bleach mixed with enough water to fill up a small kitty-litter box or some similar pan an inch with water will do.

    Pets:
Sorry no pets allowed. Maggie has several dogs that are sweet to humans but one of them gets excited around other dogs. She also has ducks, chickens and bees, and thinks things will go smoother if there aren?t dozens of dogs running around.

    Other Supplies:
If you happen to have a table and a few chairs laying around that you don?t mind bringing over, please do. We?ll probably be shorter on tables than chairs.

And if you don't have any tables or chairs, trash bags, plates, cups, food, etc... COME ANYWAY! I'm sure there will be plenty for everyone and I really hope to get as many of us together as possible so we can all meet in person. :-)

What a great time. Thank you Maggie for opening your home, Everett for all your organization skills, Monica for the great demo. To the family who adopted the bunnies. We have two house rabbits and took a free class from the Colorado House Rabbit society. We learned so much, here is their web site http://www.coloradohrs.com/ Good luck with your bunnies.

Since we don't have five stars I'm assuming someone gave it less than five stars. Hmmm... some people are just hard to please I guess.

Good people, bluegrass music, bees, ducks, chickens, solar oven cooking, fermentation demonstrations... what more could I ask for? The sun was shining (until the very end) and everyone was in a good mood. I couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks for coming!

It appears we had a sampling of everyones' interests there. Solar ovens, chickens, ducks, worms and composting talk, cabbage into sauerkraut demonstrations, music, exceptionally good food, and of course, the best company you could ask for on a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon. Thank you Maggie for being such a gracious and generous host!...and thank Everett for putting it all together!!!!

Well done! I learned a few things, a nice mix of ages, styles, expertise, etc., and the kids kept themselves amused.

I enjoyed learning about bees and meeting people. The name tags were a great help. Thanks to Maggie for sharing her yard and gardens and letting all of us walk around.
