Educational Potluck #5 - Wild Edible "Weed" Walkabout

Our next Educational Potluck will be June 7th at 6:00 PM at Waste Farmers wastefarmers.com (at Timberline Gardens 11700 W 58th Ave Arvada CO) Kate Armstrong, Urban Forager, will share her extensive knowledge of foods the Great Mother Earth simply provides to us & we often call weeds. Wander the back lots of Timberline Gardens with us on an adventure in expanding your source of healthy food with plants you might find in your alley. Many have medicinal properties. You've likely seen these plants before & had no idea how delicious they are. Now come see what else you can do with them, how to fix them, eat them, and use them for home remedies. This educational potluck will open a new door on foods we don't have to grow! Share your new knowledge with friends & strangers alike, so that we might strengthen our wonderful community. These potlucks are cost & waste free, so please bring your own plate, utensils, cup, etc. If you have a smile handy, bring it along & take a walk with us to share what we have in common. Life is always gifting us. Let's share in the spirit of giving by creating together another pleasurable potluck.

    Who else has since gone out and found some tasty greens? I've got a dandelion and lamb's quarter salad - thank you so much! The kids were so interested, too!

      I saved the lamb's quarters and dandelions from weeding the garden, and ate those. :)

    This sounds great but I won't be able to make it, will something like this be offered again?

      It's unlikely we'll do another "weed" walk this year, but there will be educational potlucks every month on different subjects. All cost free. :-}

      Your only cost is a smile & a desire to learn. This is as much about creating community as it is about food. Homemade cheese will be a Great addition to the potluck. I look forward to your presence. :-}

    So, we do or don't bring a dish?

    • Michael

      By all means, bring some food to share & your own plate, utensils, soup bowl/cup. It is always a feast of pleasurable dishes. :-}

    Are children welcome. I have 2 boys ages 7 and 11 who'd be interested in learning as well.

    May 31, 2013

    • Michael

      By all means, bring the boys. They'll have fun out wandering in the weeds & can help us with the salad, if so inclined. :-}

    What happens if I'm late to this? I don't get off work until 6 usually.

    May 31, 2013

    • Michael

      Late is fine Jessica. We won't be out wandering immediately & I'm sure you'll be able to find us if we have started the walkabout. :-}
