Weeding and Harvesting Day with Dinner

  • Sep 8, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • the Bean Acre farm #2, formerly Hazel Rah

The Bean Acre is spread across two neighboring homes/organic farms in Lakewood, and is growing for the Squeaky Bean, Edgewater Farmers Market and Local Radius online shop. Our weeding crew has gone back to college and the opportunists abound in their wake!
Speaking of which, you will have an opportunity to learn what to pull, what to eat, and what to quarantine and why.. and pretty much anything you can think to ask about organic farming in a suburban environment. We will probably make a huge batch of opportunist-based pesto (if everyone is into that) which you can take home and freeze and will definitely eat something prepared with veggies from the garden by a chef from the Squeaky Bean as a thanks after.
You should probably bring a water container, hat/sunscreen/gloves (if needed) and lunch or something to snack on during the day. I would love to cook twice for a group but truly we are shorthanded.

Welp, that's the plan. I look forward to working and speaking with you!

OK more changes... Patricia and Barb-- Since you'll be arriving in the heat of the day, and bearing in mind there is a potluck at Five Fridges at 4 (which I thought was on Fri when I created this event) , why don't we just do a tour, intentionally harvest some things, and put together a dish for that event. We could caravan and commune.
    eh?
Feel free to call me, [masked]

Would love to do this... the 8th is my birthday and I'm guessing my daughter will want to do something else with me, but certainly would be interested if we do this again!

Hey ya'll... little update for today:
We are all in a flux this month with regard to living situations and Josh (chef) will be busy moving out of his house today. So we will have to forge ahead and cook for ourselves I think. If the food was the enticement, I will understand.
I think I will set up another similar situation for next Sunday.. that, or simply open things up to volunteers through the end of the season in a less formal way, since I am here nearly every day anyway and we all have different schedules.
