Remember the beautiful handwriting of your grandparents or great-grandparents? Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing. There are many styles of calligraphy and this workshop gives you the chance to sample several different styles, through brief introductions and practice.
There are many uses for calligraphy; art, envelopes, invitations, books, and everyday use. Calligraphy is a lifetime art and can be used in all walks of life. Did you know that every font in the computer was put there by a calligrapher? Writing with our own hands makes calligraphy more beautiful than any computer print out. All participants will leave with a calligraphy marker, to continue exploring the art at home.
Please Note: This workshop will be a taster, and will not be a comprehensive course in calligraphy. For those who are interested in truly learning the art of calligraphy, a 4 week course will be offered in either February or March, 2014.
Instructor Jill Quillian has spent her working career as a teacher--36 years as an elementary teacher, recently retired. She has also taught many art classes, calligraphy classes, guild workshops, and holds private classes in her studio. Jill has been a calligrapher for over 30 years. Her work is published in several books, by Diane Maurer-Mathison and others. She recently moved to Colorado to be with family, including a delightful two year old grandson.
This workshop is offered by the Living Arts School, a folk school in Boulder County.
