As a tool for "community" building or raising "community" interest into ideas of self sufficiency, a more wholesome method of raising food or better less destructive building techniques, I agree. This whole idea of some alternatives to the usual two story cookie cutter suburban sprawl house surrounded by mega malls is a good thing. If nothing else such Urban Homesteading residences certainly add a degree of diversity into the usual BORING setups.

It seems like a good chance to interface with like minded folks if for no other reason. I have often wondered-just what is Urban Homesteading anyway? It is not as if one can ride out to the wide open spaces in any megalopolis, stake out several acres, farm and ranch in a large scale in order to be self sufficient.

True enough, at least in terms of formal definitions of homesteading. I think the term is more or less a placeholder for a social conscious meme that hasn't taken hold yet, that of being issued homesteading rights on blighted or otherwise useless property by individuals who believe they can reclaim the land by natural processes.
