hike Blue Mountain near Shartlesville

This is an easy winter loop hike in the gamelands along service roads, trails and fields on Blue Mountain. Boot chains, microspikes or crampons and hiking poles are recommended but not required. This is for fit beginners and more advanced hikers. Time is 2-3 hours and will be determined by group consensus.  The pace will be 2.0 to 3.0 miles/hour.

Parking lot is in acceptable shape for cars.

The I-78 exit is # 23, Shartlesville.  From there head towards the mountain.  At the first bend in the road go straight onto Forge Dam Road.  Go straight @ 1.5 miles to the end of the road.

The change is due to the parking at the original location being snowed in by the most recent storm.

Make that a 6 mile loop. Conditions on the service roads were surprisingly good for walking. The trails are a very different issue.

We will probably be going out late morning on Sunday from the gamelands parking lot in the sharp S-turn on Rockland Drive, off Hawk Mountain Road, Drehersville. We will most probably do 6 miles or so of service roads. Call me if you are interested at[masked]

I would enjoy this hike.Would love to be in the area post snow. But 9 is not possible. I usually work the night before so anything earlier than 10 is pushing it 11 is even better.
