We cover everything from, "This is a chart. We call it a
chart, not a map," to fixes, set & drift of current, and other
advanced topics. We prepare you for the ASA Coastal Navigation exam
(105), and the text and processing are included in the tuition. So
are high quality plotting tools, our own text book with practice
problems, Chart #1 book of symbols and abbreviations, mechanical pencils
and art erasers.
If you'd like a quick sneak preview, we have some videos up on
YouTube. One of them sees our Director, Captain Stephen Glenn Card,
answering a nav question for students aboard a J-28 during a cruising
class. This is while sailing near Shelter Island last
October. The only thing is that Captain Card is filming the video
while answering the question that came up, and at the same time, keeping
an eye on other vessels! See how well he pulls it off, and please
take a moment to rate it! We have other short videos from Greece,
the British Virgin Islands, and our own Obstacle
CourseSM - our seemingly
exclusive training aid used locally for beginner students that
accelerates learning and makes it more fun too. These videos are
candid, in-the-moment clips. To find them on YouTube, just type in
"nysailing." Don't forget to rate them!
If you'd like to enroll for one of the nav schedules, shoot us an e-mail
from the Meetup site to verify your membership and eligibility for the
discount. If you have a friend who isn't a Meetup member at the
time of this message, they can come along for $345 - half of the extra

"We give you MORE of what you go to sailing school
for!?sm Learn why: see pictures and video at
"If a man must be obsessed by something, I suppose a boat is as good as anything, and perhaps a bit better than most. A small sailing craft is not only beautiful, it is seductive and full of strange promise and the hint of trouble." - From The Sea and The Wind That Blows E. B. White -- 1899-1985"
Meet with other sailing enthusiasts at our Meetup events, attend sailing education seminars, share stories, find skippers, find crew, and go sailing!! Last year many members became crew on competitive racing boats, others learned to sail, and some went for day sails cruising around Long Island Sound. We offer through City Island Yacht Club, a Club Boat Timeshare that offers unlimited sailing on two Catalina 25's and a J/24.
This years Meet and Greet event included 90 skippers and potential crew membersconnecting. No sailing experience is necessary, we offer a range of seminars that appeal to all levels, from newbies to advanced sailors. Our Meetup events are held on City Island, about an hour's ride from Grand Central Station on the #6 Lexington Ave local plus a short bus (#29) ride, also convenient to the Hutchinson River Parkway and the I-95. There is even a direct Express Bus that runs up Madison Ave right to City Island! ".
"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In them, out of them, it doesn't really matter" Kenneth Grahame, "The Wind in the Willows"
