Topic: THE SMART GRID
Speaker – - Michael Johnston
The Smart Grid is a means to intelligently produce, distribute, & consume power, creating opportunities on both sides of the point of service. Mike's presentation will provide a clear overview of Smart Grid initiatives and opportunities. He will explain the application of Codes and Standards in the safe evolution of the electrical grid, as well as new features that will be enabled, such as being able to monitor & control the electrical system in your home or business remotely.
The Forum starts at 7pm, at the Granite Reef Senior Center in south Scottsdale, 1700 N Granite Reef Rd, Room 7, [on NW corner of McDowell (north of the gas station). Granite Reef Rd is about one half-mile east of Hayden Rd and three quarters mile west of the McDowell Rd exit on highway 101.
Michael Johnston is National Electrical Contractors Association’s (NECA) executive director of standards and safety. Mike is the Chairman of the National Electric Code (NEC) Technical Correlating Committee. He served on NEC Code Making Panel (CMP) 5 in the 2002, 2005, and chair of CMP-5 for the 2011 NEC cycle. Johnston is a member of the IBEW Local 640 and is an active member of ANSI, IAEI, NFPA, SES, ASSE, the UL Electrical Council, the National Safety Council and Vice Chair of the NFPA Electrical Section. (Greg - In other words Mike is one of the foremost reasons the United States has electricity, and safe electricity.)
