The purpose of this Meetup group is to bring together outdoor enthusiasts who are keen to explore the region by canoe and kayak.
To participate in a trip, you must have, or arrange access to, a canoe or kayak or share a tandem boat with one of the member participating. The paddlers are each responsible for their own canoe or kayak and equipment. You will also have to get yourself and possibly your boat to the meeting point. Car pooling is encouraged and can be arranged through the discussion section of each trip. The trip organizer is not responsible for coordinating car pooling and boat sharing.
Beginners should take a basic paddling course before they take on the responsibility of paddling a boat. Beginners should join up with a canoeing or kayak partner with some experience in a tandem boat for their first few trips with this group.
Under the Transport Canada boating regulations, you will need to have the basic safety equipment in your boat. Check the Transport Canada website.
The organizers of this Meet-up are neither certified instructors nor leaders. Event organizers are just paddlers looking for other autonomous paddlers to paddle together on a peer basis. Each paddler is fully responsible for their own safety. There is a waiver that must be agreed to as a prerequisite to participating in events as a guest or as a member. You'll find the waiver here: http://files.meetup.com/8196592/Waiver%20GV...
OK, enough about the 'do's and don'ts' for now! Let's have some fun paddling together. We are keen to explore a variety of environments: oceans, lakes, tidal areas, rivers. If you share these interests, please join the group and tell us about yourself, your experience and your particular objectives. If you are interested in organizing events let us know; we'll be glad to consider that after meeting you on the water.
