Humanist Summer Barbecue

We are inviting the entire Humanist/Atheist/Ethical/Freethinker community to our annual Summer Picnic/Barbecue again this year! Greater Boston Humanists President Joe Gerstein and Barbara Gerstein will again host, this time at their new home at 410 Hayfield Lane, Wayland MA (off Curling Lane; check specific directions below). This annual event is always a great chance to enjoy company of great people in great weather (--rain or shine, though it has never rained on this event in 13 years!).

The Gersteins will provide hot dogs and hamburgers (low fat), turkey burgers, veggieburgers, watermelon and sherbert. If you can bring along an appetizer, salad, dessert or drink, thanks. Ice will be available, but bring pre-cooled drinks, if possible. If you plan to attend, please register with GBH Director Tom Ferrick at[masked] (to see phone numbers you will have to join our Meetup group, otherwise click here to go to our site where they are not masked) and indicate if you will be bringing food or drink and for what course. Serving utensils, platters and bowls will be available. The outdoor space is limited but there is a very large field about 100 yards away which can be used for games. The area is very rustic. You may see a herd of Banded Galloway cattle on the way in. There is an organic farm stand down the road if you are so inclined. Joe Gerstein will present a brief talk before dessert: "A Humanist Traipses Through Italy". There will be ample opportunities for networking with others, or just relaxing in a rural setting.

Parking around the home (a condo) is limited, so please leave the adjacent parking for the infirm or disabled and do a drop off, if necessary, THEN PARK IN THE LOT OF THE BROOMSTONE CURLING CLUB, adjacent. The club does not function during the summer. DIRECTIONS:
From the East, from the Mass. Turnpike West or Route 95 take the Route 30 West exit towards Wayland. At about 5 miles, turn RIGHT on Mainstone Road. Continue for about 1/2 mile to a T intersection with Rice Road. Turn RIGHT. At about 250 yards, turn LEFT onto CURLING LANE, then next LEFT onto Hayfield Lane. 410 is near the end. Or continue straight on Curling Lane to the Broomstone parking lot, then walk back to 410. From the West, get onto Route 30 East (if using the Mass. Turnpike, take the Natick exit). About 1.5 miles east on Route 30 from the Natick exit, turn LEFT on Rice Road (at a traffic light). [If you miss this turn, go left on Mainstone Road in about 1/2 mile and follow above instructions]. On Rice Road, continue past Mainstone Road entry at a T intersection about 250 yards. Turn LEFT at CURLING ROAD, next LEFT is Hayfield Lane or continue along Curling Lane to Broomstone parking lot. From the South: Get to Route 30 West via Route 95 or Mass. Turnpike, then use "From the East instructions above. Or get to Route 30 East in Natick or Framingham and follow "From the West" instructions above. From the North: Take Route 20 West from 95. At about 5 miles their is a LEFT FORK off Route 20 just before THE COACH Restaurant. This is Old Connecticut Path. At about 1 mile, turn LEFT on Rice Road (a T intersection). At about 2 miles, turn RIGHT on CURLING LANE. Either continue straight to the BROOMSTONE parking lot or turn LEFT on Hayfield Lane to dropoff at 410. If coming east on Route 20, make a sharp(280 degree) RIGHT turn at Coach Restaurant (opposite Village Bank) onto Old Connecticut Path.

We can arrange a pickup at Riverside, if we can't offer you a direct ride. Talk with Tom. If you get lost:[masked] or[masked]-1245. Again, if you cannot see the phone numbers, please visit our main site by clicking here. The numbers are not masked there.
