This fall, introducing a book discussion group centered around sustainable community development, planning and transitioning.
The book chosen for this is 'Transition Companion:making your community more resilient in uncertain times' By Rob Hopkins. The Transition Companion largely replaces the Transition handbook, as it contains the material from the handbook that has been found to work in the field, as well as actual experiences.
Transition Towns (also known as Transition network or Transition Movement) is a grassroots network of communities that are working to build resilience in response to peak oil, climate destruction, and economic instability. It began as a permaculture design student project overseen by permaculture teacher Rob Hopkins at the Kinsale Further Education College in Ireland.
Bill McKibben, author of Eaarth, says of The Transition Companion: “What Rob Hopkins has done—in this book, and with the Transition movement—simply couldn’t be more important. We’re coming to a powerful crunch time for our civilization, and if you read this you’ll be well ahead of the curve in understanding how to prepare your community. There’s much beauty here, and hope.”
The plan is to do this on the first and third Sunday of the months of the winter, holidays permitting.
Permaculture group members Karen and Laura will co-lead this group.
