Our speaker will be Janice Stieber Rous of Body Dialogue who is now also to be joined by Peruvian Shaman Inti Cesar Malasquez.
"Six weeks ago I returned from a life changing trip to the indigenous people called the ACHUAR who live in the rainforest of Ecuador. I want to tell you about the meeting and what the real avatar is about. The presentation will introduce you to the organisation called Pachamama . Please join me at Green Drinks to discuss, be informed and find like minded souls.", Janice Stieber Rous.
Pachamama
The Pachamama Alliance is based on the recognition that those of us in the modern world share a deep connection with the people who call the rainforest their home-each of us having a critical stake in the health and well being of this vital element in our global life support system. We also recognize that indigenous people are the rainforests' natural custodians, and therefore, key strategies of our alliance focus on strengthening their culture and empowering their ability to stand for and represent their own interests.
Another underlying principal of our alliance is based on the recognition of the pervasive role economics plays in the fate of our rainforests. It is generally agreed that the Earth's tropical rainforests are its most valuable ecosystem. Yet, in the economic equations which shape decisions regarding the use of the Earth's resources, rainforests seldom show up as adding any value simply remaining in their natural state. Also, the direct costs to society of having to use technology to replace the environmental services nature provides are seldom considered.
Pachamama has a commitment both to develop tangible, real-life projects through which rainforests provide more direct economic benefit standing than cut as well as to broaden the general economic view so that the value of standing rainforests and the costs associated with their destruction are measured and counted. Our work takes place in two distinct program areas: social and economic development projects in the South and education and awareness building in the North.

Body Dialogue
Body Dialogue is a practice of present moment awareness that enables a person to recognize their patterns, both physical and emotional and allows one to shift into a more integrated and aware state of being.
Janice Stieber Rous has been dancing since she was five and attended the Martha Graham School until the age of 21. She then graduated from the American Center of the Alexander Technique in 1981 and has been teaching classes in Stough Breathing Coordination, Yoga and the Alexander Technique in New York City, Israel and Europe ever since. She is a Sarah Lawrence College graduate and has a master’s degree from Bank St. College in museum leadership and administration.
Janice created Body Dialogue because she was in search of a practice to integrate all of her different studies, thereby effectively combining Alexander Technique, breathing and yoga. Her dedication to empowerment and growth is reflected not only in her teaching, but also her mentoring students and teachers at Shine On Yoga, where she is currently on the faculty.
Her present interest is to combine her mind body practice with her commitment to Mother Earth.
