Join us at the USGBC-Central Florida Chapter Winter Social. Green Drinks is teaming up with many other local organizations to do some good this time of year. All proceeds go to the Coalition for the Homeless (WRCC).
The Community Advocacy Program (CAP) of the Central Florida Chapter of the US Green Building Council has decided to work with the WRCC for it's inaugural project. The WRCC is a 138-bed shelter housing women and children as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Eighty percent of the families living in the facility are victims of domestic abuse. The Coalitions for the Homeless provides an array of phenomenal services, including counseling, emergency healthcare, case management, and on-site Early Development Center and job placement.
The WRCC facility was built in 1964 and needs our help. "Greening" the WRCC buildings is our goal. While we work to create an energy and water efficient, well-ventilated, low-toxicity, easy to maintain facility at the WRCC, we need your help. We will need your dollars and your hard work to get this done.
Goals and Outcomes
Through strategic partnerships with USGBC committees, member companies, local government officials, and other associations and community groups, CAP is pursuing the following major goals at WRCC:
Upgrade building HVAC and ventilation systems
Increase energy and water efficiency
Install low‐emitting durable floor and wallfinishes
Create and implement green building standards
Build edible community garden
Provide furniture, clothing, bicycles and other resources to support sustainable living for the residents
Thank you for your help and we hope to see you there!
