True Upstate New York and the Thousand Islands tour.

  • August 16, 2014 · 7:00 AM

If you think Albany is upstate New York, you need to go on this ride. We will be riding the true upstate roads and byways on our way to the beautiful Thousand Islands region of New York. Enjoy a journey along the northern foothills of the Adirondack mountains and the scenic St Lawrence Seaway on our way to beautiful Alexandria Bay. On our way there is a good chance to see Amish farm stands (planned stop at Amish shop for baked goods) and large laker ships all in the same. While in Alexandria Bay, we can take a tour boat ride and learn the stories and history of more then 1000 islands that dot the river. The tours include a stop at Boldt Castle where you can learn the tragic love story of George C Boldt who was constructing this beautiful castle for his wife, who would never see this symbol of love. Other side trips are in the planning, so stay tuned. After our stay, we will journey back on a different path and journey up and into the Adirondack mountains and the high peak region via RTE 3. This journey is still a work in progress, but make sure to mark your calendars for August, 2014.

The statue on the boat tour was of St. Lawrence, patron saint of the river! Various articles on the web. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Tom and Betty, thank you so much for the great weekend. We have a fantastic time and really enjoyed the boat ride as well as the dinner. Weather cleared nicely for our return on Sunday. Pat and Jeanne and Ed and I ever stopped for an ice cream at the Bridge Restaurant on the way home.
Ed probably had the best time and he will never forget Alexandria Bay as a result of it!

We hit our favorite ice cream stand on the way home as well. Harrigan's in West Plattsburgh. Yum! Glad you were on the ride, had a great time.

We had a great time in Alexandria Bay this weekend. Glad that we found the sun on Sunday and a brewery to boot. I must admit that I enjoyed the local custom of "tops down" even though it was very brief! I might want to go back next year and stay for the entire Pirate's Week.

Betty and I had a fantastic time regardless of the weather. Having a great group of people that allowed for changes in plans due to timing and weather sure made this a most enjoyable time. Thanks to everyone. And we did get to ride home with tops down the whole way. Only Ed had top down yesterday, if you know what I mean. Great roads from Tupper Lake Ed. Had never been that way before and the sun came out. Couldn't ask for more.

last day rooms will be saved. As it is 3 hours to the bay from here, I would like to leave by 9:45 the latest. Meeting point will be the On The Run gas station located at the intersection of rt 2 and 78, just south of Alburg,Vt. Try to be there prior to get gas and organized.

We made it to Meadville, PA! We are rubbing our sore butts and drinking wine! Wish we could have gone back with the group but paycheck calls.
It was a great ride. Thank you, thank you, Betty and Tom! We loved what you had planned and being with such an entertaining group of people. Good thing they gave us a private room at the restaurant. So many laughs! So glad that we went!

Glad you made it to PA safely. Thanks for coming along. It was a rainy ride, but was enjoyable mostly due to the great people who were on it. Looking forward to seeing you on the next ride.

Donna and I were out that way this week on our way to Ithaca for business. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and made our reservations while there. This should be a fun ride, although the road through the town of Gouverneur is really torn up.

I went to the Thousand Islands over the 4th & will not be joining you for the ride. I have a route suggestion if an organizer wants to get in touch with me.

We had been thinking the 2:30 1hr tour would be a good target. The 2.25 hr tour is nice, but would take a big chunk of the afternoon, with time spent exploring the castle. We can determine that best depending on what time we get there. We can't get into the hotel until after 4:00,but I would like to drive to Sachets Harbor for dinner. Can you say brewpub?

      June 30, 2014

    • Thomas L.

Oh, and there is a new brewery near the hotel as well.

As the site will not allow me to update above, I will update here. We now have a block of rooms at the Watertown Holiday Inn Express. I would have loved to get rooms in the Bay, but all were 2 night stay only. As I am planning a side trip to Sackets Harbor, this may be better anyway. The rooms will be $131.12, plus 10.75% tax for double and will be held until July 28th. The direct phone number will be[masked] and you just have to mention block for Miata club. There are 15 rooms set aside. Wouldn't it be nice to fill them? Anyway, this hotel is located right near lots of eateries and the salmon run mail. My hope for Saturday night would be dinner in Sackets Harbor, but for those who do not journey there, there should be plenty of alternatives. More to come.

Made a run on Rt.3 yesterday. Went all the way to Sachets Harbor on the shores of Lake Ontario. Beautiful main street. May be a point of interest when the islands are explored.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
