What is Maker Faire and how should we get involved?! Well, Maker Faire just so happens to be the greatest Show and Tell on Earth! http://makerfaire.com/new-york-2013/
Over 500 exhibitors will showcase creativity and innovation in technology, craft, science, fashion, art, food, and sustainability. There will be outrageous attractions including the Life-Sized Mousetrap, Coke Zero and Mentos show, Power Racing Series, iconic Cupcake Cars and other spectacular surprises. GrowNYC will be there as well!
The Office of Recycling Outreach and Education will be working with Maker Faire and Western Queens Compost Initiative to reduce the environmental impact of Maker Faire and create even more of an educational opportunity for all Maker attendees to take charge in waste reduction and environmental sustainability in an informed and empowered way.
To join in on the project, and get your FREE ticket to Maker Faire 2013, just sign up to be a Green Team volunteer. http://www.grownyc.org/volunteer-opportunities (Go to the event date on the calendar.) Each volunteer will receive a 1 day-pass per day for each shift completed. Sign up for 1 or both days! (Many come for both days as there's too much stuff to see in just one day.)
The Green Team will be helping attendees recycle and compost properly at the event waste station bins, answering questions about which items can be recycled and why, as well as what food scrap composting is all about. No experience necessary to volunteer, all training will be given before your shift. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and snacks, in addition to their free entry ticket. Bring a friend*, bring your whole office, and join us in this spectacular event!
This a two day event with various shifts available: Saturday, Sept 21 at 10AM-2:30PM and 2:30PM-7PM and Sunday, Sept 22 at 10AM-2PM and 2PM-6PM. If you have any questions, please visit http://www.grownyc.org/volunteer-opportunities or contact Ana Paglione at [masked].
See you all there!
