Come and Make Musical Noise

SUMMER IS COMING SO BRING A SONG OF SUMMER!!!

WE WILL BE MEETING ON FRIDAY, MAY 30th 2014 at 7:00 PM.

The Greenwich Acoustic Music Circle (GAMC) is a monthly play/sing along jam for those interested in playing and singing acoustic rock.  We welcome people at INTERMEDIATE  levels of ability. Bring one PRE-1980's song and one POST-1980's song, in this way, we are not a traditional "folk music" circle.

Please also remember, the Darien Acoustic Group is scheduled for Thursday, May 15th 2014, which should help alleviate the WAIT LIST PROBLEM.

I don't think that I heard any of them before. I typically google them and if I like the sound will try to get there. I did go to see Slaid Cleaves last year -- he sings that song "Broke Down". I wanted to see C.J. Chenier, but never made it.

The weekly concert in Ballard Park in Ridgefield has begun so if you're free on Tuesday nights come by and enjoy some music! You can find out who's performing by going to chirpct.org.

Hey Judy - if you have seen some of these bands and reccommend them, I'd be game to venture out on a Tuesday night - Leslie

Thanks once again to Frank, Laura and John for such a great afternoon in Armonk!! Man what a beautiful day it was to hang out and listen to some good music. Nice seeing Andy, Judy, Robert and Susan. It was the music circle - outside style! :-)

Outdoor concerts are fun, especially when they're free! Here's a listing of Westchester summer concerts. Most are outdoors and most are free. https://artswestcheste...

Hey Andy, thanks for the website. There are some shows that look fun, I just may check them out!!

definitely fun .. As mentioned, this coming Sunday (June 8th) - both my band (www.facebook.com/mojofiltered) and Laura & John's band (www.facebook.com/riversideways) will be performing at this years "Fol De Rol" arts & craft festival, in Armonk. Mojo Filtered goes on at Noon and Riversideways goes on around 2pm. The Fol De Rol will feature vendors of all sorts, as well as kiddie rides and a dog show - etc . So its a full event.

beautiful weekend on tap - so come have some fun in the sun (hopefully there will be beer ) .

Andy, it's so great of you to do this. Thanks.

      June 2, 2014

    • robert

Frank/Andy - Cheez, I wasn't even there and I want another crack at Surfer Girl !! And missing "Do It Again" - ouch… But I think Andy's got it right - you all sound great, but occasionally the girls are the only ones trying valiantly to sing melody. (Of course each of the harmony parts on Surfer Girl are a melody of their own - but that's another story…)

Thanks Laura and John for a good evening, and good luck tonight!

My old neighborhood. I used to live in Chappaqua for 23 years and always loved the fairs each spring. Robert and I will try to be there.

Uploaded my 2nd choice, Divisionary (Do the Right Thing). I included a link to youtube, as you may not have heard it as it's quite new. The way the song builds is important, with verse 3 becoming suddenly soft, and the bridge being explosive.
    Happy Memorial Day!

If you have a song in chord/lyric text format and need to change the key, here's a tool that will change the entire song quickly. Go to http://www.logue.net/xp/ and follow the prompts. You can copy the result and paste it into a new file. As always, check the results.

For all you Beatles fans, try "Anytime At All". For some reason that popped into my head when I was demo'ing it last night… You'll think you're 'one of the lads' :)

If anyone is interested - an impromptu drum circle happening today at 4pm at Croton Point Park ( in Westchester). About 4 or 5 drummers for now - but who knows .. Meet in rear parking lot nearest river and listen for drums.

Hey there .. As some of you know I am a percussionist as well .. And I belong to a drum circle meetup in Westchester. We are looking for folks who might have an interest in joining us, to drum , or dance, or to just to be communal. We we looking to do these drum circles through the summer , so please let me know if you are interested.

    May 10, 2014

    • doctorzuma

Frank, not a problem, I think these Meetup sites should be used to further a sense of musical community-so people should post musical events that they think are worthwhile..

Agree with the doctor. And if there are spin-off or subgroups performing somewhere, let us know.

I went to see Frank and his band 'Mojo Filtered' at a BBQ event in Ridgefield yesterday. Don't know which was better, the BBQ or his band :-) He and his band were great!! Hopefully they will take their show on the road for all to see!

    May 5, 2014

Thanks Dave . Am glad you enjoyed it despite my pretentious BB KING growelling. Our guitarist Tim Gilbert carries that song - ill pass along your compliment

Just re-posted "Summer in the City" with modified chord progression (still Am) and suggestion to capo to third fret as in original recording.

    May 7, 2014

  • lms68

Is it ok to like music that was done this year and performed by a bunch of young boys whose age ranges between that of 15-17 years old? And the general age range of their fans are from maybe 10-25 years old (possibly younger then 10!!) I am shamefully admitting that this 40 something actually likes some of that music (if you can call it that), oh the horror :-) Maybe we can play 'she looks so perfect' from 5 Seconds of Summer, c'mon, I know you all want to!

    May 6, 2014

    • robert

Hey Leslie, even though we won't be there, I couldn't resist listening... Not bad, and at least it's not the Archie's doing Sugar Sugar (the sixties weren't all hip…) So if this goes over well, Frank can take on that driving Bo-Didley beat classic with "I Want Candy" :)

      May 6, 2014

    • lms68

Wow Robert, you saying that it's 'not bad', I somehow feel validated :-) The lyrics (if you could call them that) are about as vacuous as a wall, and the song itself has absolutely no substance. But for a teeny bopper song, it's outstanding!!

Does anyone have the contact info for the Darien Acoustic Group

OK, I'll bring the car horn and the motorcycle.

  • Ed M.

There must be a trick to this when it hits my mailbox at 8:00 on a Sunday night and it's full by 8:02. If I don't make it in, somebody bring Summertime Blues in my memory.

    May 4, 2014

    • doctorzuma

Ed On the Greenwich Acoustic Music Circle's Home page, to the left there is a tab, named "About Us". If you click on that, under "How it Works" reads the following: "We limit each Meetup to 14 participants, plus the two organizers, to assure a more intimate group where we are able to hear each other play and sing. Also, to reinforce the idea of a consistent group of participants, those who have attended 3 out of the 4 last Meetups will receive an e-mail notifying them when the next Meetup will be posted."

      May 5, 2014

    • Ed M.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense to me, and now that Susan has dropped off, I'm in. Look forward to meeting some new folks and seeing old friends from Larchmont.

      May 5, 2014

  • robert

Hi all - Yeah, we thought it was on the 16th, so I'm changing my RSVP now, and Susan will this evening. Tough choice - Kenny Loggins in Stamford or the Meetup - anyone want to buy a couple of concert tickets? :)

    May 5, 2014

    • doctorzuma

When you hear him perform a song you like, make note, and bring it to the next group.

      May 5, 2014

Robert and I have tickets to a concert that night so two people will get lucky today.
