The Edison Cocktails and Show

If you've never been to The Edison you're in for a big treat. It's a step back in time and was built in 1910. The architecture and design is absolutely gorgeous. The Edison used to be an old power plant, and is complete with generators smack dab in the middle of one room, and has been converted into an upscale lounge. It is HUGE inside and there are so many beautiful rooms. For those of you that know me, as much as I love to drink, I don't really go to clubs as I find them annoying. However, the beauty and spaciousness of The Edison has made me make an exception. Whatever you've heard about the expense, the wait at the door, etc., get over it. If you know how to do it right, which I'll show you, there will be none of that nonsense. First of all, we're going on a Thursday night, the crowd is way smaller on a Thursday than on the weekend. Plus, we're going early to get in and get settled into a cool spot.

Virtual Tour of Edison: http://www.edisondowntown.com/main.htm

We'll start off early with cocktails. There's a show going on and the performers are Lindsay and The All Nighters. This girl looks great! Big voice, sexy, great music and a few dancers belting out Nina Simone, Etta James, and Tina Turner. I've attached a link:

http://www.lyndsayhaldorson.com

Her first set starts at 8:30 and there are four sets throughout the night. I'd like to suggest that everyone dress up a bit. There is a dress code, mainly for the men so check it out here: http://www.edisondowntown.com/main.htm

Parking: They have valet but I suggest parking in a lot, some aren't that expensive in the area and you're good all night.

I know it seems as if they require a lot but once you get there, you'll see how really beautiful it is. Thanks and I look forward to seeing all of you!

Happy hour is from 5:00-7:00

I'll be there at 6:00

Show starts at 8:30

Stay as long as you like!

YOU ENTER DOWN AN ALLEY, IT'S PRETTY BIG SO YOU'LL SEE IT!

I'll add too that I had a good time at my 1st event, and your organizing was just fine Lisa. Thanks, I actually did receive your groovy vibes this morning, or that was the linger affects of the alcohol. One or the other.

My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone as much as I wanted to so please, if you were there last night and you were new and we didn't get a chance to converse, please know that I'm extending groovy vibes your way today in hopes that you will come back to another event and we can get to know each other better:)

First, I would like to compliment Lisa for being an AWESOME, CREATIVE organizer. Second, I am so excited about going to the Edison. I have actually been planning to go there for years. Third, I would like to know if anyone is attending from Long Beach, or is interested in riding the metro from LB or some point along the way? I like taking the Metro to LA, but the ride home gets a little sketchy sometimes.

Son broke his arm today so cannot make it. Some day soon. Groove on!

    May 16, 2013

  • Lisa V.

So here's the scoop, as of now, my chubby body can fit into a blue dress that is floor length. I have on blue accessories and one special accessory...a necklace with a peace sign in the middle...because I'm so groovy! If you are one of the first 48 people to get there, you too can have a groovy peace necklace...or a lei, (notice the spelling guys), 48 was all the store had:( GUYS: NO tennis shoes and wear a button up shirt, girls, look like a ho and you'll be good to go!

I will go directly into the main bar area right when I get there until I get a small group formed. We may possibly go into another room and see what tables we can grab. SO, if you get there later or early, and can't find me or the group, TEXT me.

Looks like I will have to work until about 8pm but I am still coming as soon as I get off. :-)

  • Chris M.

Hey everyone, just an FYI - The Edison has a dress code after 7pm. No sneakers, collared shirts for guys, etc. Check the website for details.
Also, keep in mind all the tables are reserved so if you'd like to sit and eat you have to buy a table, and there are minimums per table (ie food & drinks that add up to $25 per person). You can order food at the bar, but it gets crowded and bar space is limited. Just wanted to give you all a heads up!
Call the club with any questions! (213)[masked]

  • Lisa V.

Hey guys, just an FYI, a reserved table is out of the question at this point because there's so many of us which is really cool but I think that's ok as the place is so big that you'll want to slink around and enjoy several spots to sit/stand.

Hi everyone, one way to actually "Meetup" would be to issue glow wristbands. You can get them at the Toy District for $6. This event was posted at my group, Los Angeles Free Concerts, but there wasn't enough lead time (we like 2 weeks notice). We would love to join you guys next time :-) (shameless plug alert) If you're free next Thursday, we're having our 6 Year Anniversary Party at The Charleston.

I'm intrigued. I want to join you, however I have to work & I'll probably arrive closer to 7:00. Lisa can you save me a seat (& answer any text)?

Thanks for organizing this. It might be fun to cross-promote it with other meetup groups. There was a meetup at the Edison on March 14 with a bunch of groups including Downtown Happy Hour Professionals, etc. Just a thought.

I will help with the deposit if you need it.
    Dean[masked]

    April 29, 2013

    • Lisa V.

There's no deposit but after 7:00 they would like each person to order a $25 minimum. I think since we're getting there at 6:00 that we can sit anywhere and just hold onto our table.

      April 29, 2013

  • Jenifer C.

too far can you have anything in the valley

    April 5, 2013

    • Jessica

I'm in the valley if you want to carpool send me a note. This is a really fun place downtown. We could even take the subway from Universal City

      April 29, 2013

  • Jessica

I am going to reserve a table. If they require a deposit is anyone willing to go in with me?? I just don't want to get stuck standing all night and the bar itself has limited seating. Send me a private message if you are interested. Thanks again Lisa for coordinating this!!

    April 28, 2013

  • Jessica

What about reserving just a couple tables so we have a base of operations otherwise we will each get stuck with a $30 minimum if we want to sit at a table. If you reserve 3 or 4 then it will be easier to meet the table minimum.. just a suggestion

    1 · April 26, 2013

  • Jessica

The Edison is really fun and worth the drive in from the valley!! You can take the subway from universal and the station is about two blocks from the Edison

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
