By Invitation Only: Faux Moto GP & Baja Santa Cruz Rally à la Kardasian (7/6/13)

By Invitation Only:

Faux Moto GP & Baja Santa Cruz Rally à la Kardasian

As the name suggests, this is more like Reality TV.  Which means it's partly true and partly false and far from reality.

In short:
    -
Yes, there will be Moto's.

    - No GP per se, but there will be a few Good Peeps, if that counts.
    - Yes, we will ride in Santa Cruz County, and yes, we'll ride near its Southern border too
    - If you consider a dozen or more bikes to be a Rally, then yes.  It's a Rally alright
    - If you can read this, consider yourself invited  :~>

~ ~

• When: Sat 7/6/2013, Meet at 9:30 AM for coffee and gossip; KSU 10 AM

• Where: Meet at Peet’s Coffee in Los Gatos
798 Blossom Hill Rd, Los Gatos, CA • (408)[masked]
(fill up @ Chevron at the corner)

• Route:  TBD ... but it will be semi-technical back-roads in 408, 831 and 650 area codes. There will be bumps, tight switch-backs with diminishing radius, etc

Pace: Not too fast.  Not too slow.  Just right. (not suitable for newbies)

Gear: Head to toe

Motorcycle: Yes, please bring it with you ;-)

Words of Wisdom:
~ Please review Liability Release statement at THIS LINK

~ Proper gear, a working machine and gas in the tank is highly recommended.
~ Ride within your comfort zone and leave room for bad karma.
~ I may pass slower traffic when it's safe. You don't have to. Remember, someone will wait for you at turns, so just relax and have fun.
~ I maintain the Pace according to road conditions with safety of all riders in mind. Be mindful of others in the group. Let faster riders get ahead of you by moving to the right and signaling them to pass you. And if you want to pass the rider(s) who are in front of you, make sure to do so safely and without startling them.

~ If you know the area and would like to sweep for the group (AM shift, PM shift or both), please let me know.
~ Good stuff to read before going on group rides (CLICK).
~ Keep an eye for the rider(s) behind you so they won't take a wrong turn. If they get lost, you'll buy their lunch devilish

Great group and ride! Thanks, Mehran! You always make sure we don't fall asleep. It's either the whistle during the stops or the bumps while riding. ;-)

Well maybe that's something a GPS can get right... :)
Did it record the total miles for the day???
We could have done Swanton too, but I was getting pretty tired, and it was cold, windy, and foggy. I was glad to get back home.

For some reason, it only kept track data back to Corralitos. I've seen it keep up to 500mi worth of track/history, but there must be something else using some of the finite mem (4Gb). Ironically, I put a 32Gb card in it thinking I'd load my music collection and let the GPS use that mem for track/route data too, but alas, the Garmin wants to live entirely within the measly 4Gb. My best guess is my total miles, home, Kardasian, post, and back home was ~ 375mi.

That secret loop does not exist on Google maps or Garmin, because the road is supposed to be deadend - except we go thru it. Tracking what doesn't exist confuses the heck out of any device ;~)

Did a post-ride with Martin. Some of the places looked vaguely familiar from past rides. Thank goodness the GPS records where I was so I can make some sort of sense of "where I was" ... http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/grady-k1600gtl/kardasian-ride-corralitos-fourcorners-post-ride-alices-davenport-fourcorners/#pois/img-0648

Have to back out today (bummer!) as I have an opportunity to earn some $ (yea!) which will help pay for the new rubber I need for the next rides. Have fun and be safe...I'll miss you all!

Having some clutch slipping issues on the bike. Bringing it tomorrow for a replacement. Next time I might be able to do a wheelie! (Yeah, right.) Have a fun day and be safe. :-)

    July 5, 2013

    • Mehran

Which is why I said each garage needs 2 bikes. A primary bike and a back-up bike ;-)

Yessiree, and I highly recommend a duplicate model for swappage, easier than waiting for parts! :)

Expect much cooler temps and some fog near the coast. Dress in layers. Lunch stop either in Corralitos or in Aptos.

Um, you realize that "these days" it is customary for the father to be _IN_ the delivery room. So if you are "filling in", be advised of the full job description/roles/duties involved ... just sayin' :|.

      July 5, 2013

  • Kelley O.

Sorry I can't make it. I took my saddlebags off and saw that my chain and rear sprocket are knackered. Must replace.

Depends when the rubber gets here, as i do the mounting myself. Brad's is too clean to ride. ;)
