Learn Square Foot Gardening and Best Soil Practices

We are lucky enough to have a member of our group who could get us the use of a conference room at the center where he works at the last minute. The meeting room has its own entrance on the south side of the building. It is the set of doors on the far left.   But, we can get drinks or snacks to bring into the room from the snack bar area.

Square Foot Gardening

Cassie Holderman D’Aula has trained directly with the author and creator of Square Foot Gardening, Mel Bartholomew. She organized the first Square Foot Gardening Teacher Training Symposium to be held outside of the state of Utah, which was in August 2009 in Newark, Ohio. At that event, Cassie co-taught along with Mel and helped set some of the standards for future trainings. Since that time, Cassie has traveled with and co-presented with Mel across the country.

Cassie has been teaching Square Foot Gardening since 2008 and has presented to well over 3000 students. She has presented at the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show, the Licking County Home & Garden Show, as well as various other locations in Ohio and is a frequent presenter for the Upper Arlington Life Long Learning programs. In 2010, Cassie was keynote speaker for the Delaware Master Gardener’s spring event, Green Thumbs, where she spoke to an audience of around 300 guests.

Cassie is not charging for this training but would accept donations to cover her costs.

I bought both of Mel's new SFG edition and the companion cookbook at this meetup. Glad I did - the book is readable (like Mel is talking to you helping you along) and chock full of good advice. To my pleasant surprise the many recipes using produce have a new twist (watermelon icing anyone?) The dishes look and sound tantalizing without too many steps or ingredients...simple and healthy, great addition for a plant-based diet (even the ones using meat I would give a try if I go off the vegan wagon).

So much really good information.... So little time. Could have listened to these ladies all night!!! Totally revamped my way of thinking about gardening.

If anyone choses to enter through the bowling center and not the meeting room outdoor entrance an indoor entrance is located directly lane #10 on the concourse. Look forward to meeting everyone!

Anyone else doing indoor herbs this winter? Herb swap meet perhaps? I have a bumper crop of rosemary and Cuban oregano.... Please let me know if anyone can take some of either off my hands. Planning on attending tomorrow :-)

I love Cuban oregano but have no herbs to trade....

No worries. . . Herb "swap meets" might be a fun idea for future meets... But for tomorrow I'm happy with finding a home for excess. Do you want leaves to cook with or a starter sprig.... :-) or both?

We have a location on Sawmill. We are lucky. It is almost impossible to get places the last minute. I understand that it is relatively quiet, good parking and has snack food. See you all there!

I think we have a location. We should know later today. Pray for good weather!
