Sticks and Stones: Stigma and the Mental & Physical Health of Sexual Minorities

  • Beef 'O' Brady's

4469 Mobile Highway, Pensacola, FL (map)

    30.432957 -87.276482

  • Dr. Susan Walch will present her research on the physical and mental effects of discrimination. More details to follow! Remember to arrive early enough to place your food order before the presentation begins.

Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals are sexual and gender minorities subject to stigma in our society. Dr. Walch will present research documenting that “sticks and stones can break your bones” and names really can hurt you, physically and mentally. Discrimination has a direct relationship with mental health and physical health is influenced by mental health.  Some coping strategies (but not all) may moderate the relationship between discrimination and mental health.

God I wish I could come. Some of you may know that I'm a Transexual, and things can be pretty rough some times. It really does help to know that you guys care about this kind of thing :)
