Gulf Coast Science Café serves the scientific interests of our local community…..in and around Pensacola. The Café is a place where anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology, over a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of beer, outside a traditional academic setting. The Café is a forum for debating science issues in an informal setting where relaxed conversation and an exchange of ideas is possible. The Café is committed to promoting public engagement with science and to making science accessible to all.
The Café Scientifique movement started in England in 1998 as an informal discussion forum giving everyone the opportunity to gather to discuss great topics in science. The Café meetings are designed to promote group discussion: the evening is led by an invited speaker, who talks briefly, then the topic is thrown open to debate and everyone is encouraged to join the discussion. http://www.sciencecafes.org
