See the 'Gorge's' falls!

I did a little scouting around today for another good meetup.  Whilst cruising through the northern Jim Thorpe area (love that town), I stopped into a little restaurant, and the waitress staff there told me about this place.  Glen Onoko has some real interesting trails, but the tunnel sounded really cool to me, and the distance sounded pretty good for all types of hikers (about 5.6 miles).  Read more about it here:  http://gonehikin.blogspot.com/2011/05/glen-onoko-fallsbroad-mountain-lehigh.html

It is a little far to be considered "Harrisburg", but I find some of the best stuff is worth the distance.

Weather is unpredictable, but I think the temp is great for this.  Love that time between Summer's end and Fall's beginning.

Following the hike, I would recommend The Beacon restaurant.  A decent veggie burger was available there (good tzatziki sauce).  Plenty of choices for the non-veggie crowd too.

See what you think, and looking forward to meeting all who can make it!

The falls were great, and the hike was quite exhilerating. Prakash found a really great way down from the top which probably saved us hours of getting lost time. Great work out too!

A little more crowded than I expected, but a nice to place to hike. Brian and Prakash were quite gracious. It was great hiking with you all, especially on the more adventurous parts such as the rock climbing.

Hey everyone, I realize it may be a bit confusing with the destination now that I'm looking above. The GPS coordinates are to the parking lot, but that is not where we should initially meet. I think it's best to meet at the Beacon restaurant at noon. Give me a call or txt at[masked] if anyone has questions on this. See you all there!

Would anyone be willing to give me a ride? You could pick me up in Hummelstown by where I live or I could go to maybe Harrisburg on my bike to meet someone. Please call or text at [masked]

    Brian,
Where are we meeting to start the hike? Should I set my GPS for the restaurant address?

Since Brian has gone green and is taking a spin in his smart car, you can carpool with me if interested. I have a 4-door Sedan and I live in Mechanicsburg area.

@ Rachel it would be great to have your kids come along. I never have any probs with that (love kids). But, I do think this may be a bit overwhelming for them. I hear it's a bit steep in some areas, and it can be a bit risky at times. Would hate to have any danger for your kids. I will keep it in mind though for future hikes to try to be kid friendly.

Is anyone going from the Harrisburg area? If so, I would like to carpool.

Brian, It is a good idea to have a carpool,so we can save energy and we can enjoy in one car instead of everybody drive alone.

Great to have you all on board so far. It's a rainy weekend for Columbus Day, but I'm betting it will be clear when we head up north. We can possibly do car pooling as time gets closer. Amanda, I'm betting you'll have no probs, but I'll make sure it stays at a nice relaxed pace. Gettin too old for anything else (lol). Thx everyone!
