As this is a new book club, the rules will invariably change as we get more experience with this group.
Our current thought are:
CHOOSING A BOOK SELECTION:
•We will take turns choosing a book selection.
•The person whose turn it is to select a book will also lead the discussion (if you do not want to lead the discussion, but want to choose a book, you can see if anyone will volunteer to lead the discussion for you).
•When it is your turn, please choose 3 books. They do not all have to be on the same topic or have the same approach.
•Please provide the titles, authors and a brief summary of each book to Tish and Michelle. There is an email button to the left.
•Tish or Michelle will post the summaries in the discussion section.
•Tish or Michelle will create a POLL with the three books.
•Tish or Michelle will let the HBC members know that the poll is available. In order to participate in a poll, go to the drop down menu labeled "MORE," then click on "POLLS"
•The book that gets the most votes will be the chosen vote.
•Tish/Michelle will let the members know which book was chosen
PREPARING FOR A MEETING:
•The person who chose the book should be prepared to lead the discussion. You can review themes and general questions for discussion.
•The person who chose the book can optionally provide discussion questions to Tish/Michelle, and we will post them prior to the meeting, so that members can think about these as they are reading.
•Members attending the meeting should do their best to read the book prior to the meeting.
•Members are encouraged to think of discussion questions, which can be used to help out the discussion leader.
Please change your RSVP 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it. So far, our turnout has been good, which is very encouraging!
It is likely that we will touch on issues of race, politics, gender, social/economic inequality, so please remember to be respectful of other's opinions.
We are gratified that so many people have found this club to be interesting. We are looking forward to learning from each other, and enjoying spirited discussions.
There is a $2.00 charge per person for each book club discussion, to offset the cost of hosting a meetup group.,
Welcome to HBC!
