Introduction To HBase

There are many people who have an interest in learning about HBase (or similar) due to having problems in their business related to Big Data. But they know little about it and are afraid to jump right into a group of professionals who will be using all the technical terminology they haven't even heard before. Furthermore, there are people who have already begun learning about these technologies and simply have a limited scope of what is possible with them.

Presenter: Alex Baranau

This presentation will consist of two parts and will cover the "Introduction to HBase" and "Introduction to HBase Internals" topics. In the first part we'll be talking about the key features of HBase and their importance, what HBase setups look like, HBase usage patterns, and when to choose HBase. The second part will cover some aspects of HBase underlying architecture, as well as some schema design insights. Understanding this will help HBase users make better use of this powerful database technology and avoid common mistakes.

The 1st part thoroughly met my expectations. Since I am not a HBase user, I have no comment on the 2nd part. On the whole, I am glad I came.

    The introduction was quite helpful.
However, maybe my background was not extensive enough to fully appreciate the other aspects of the presentation.

Meetup Space should be available for June 26. But do we have a presenter yet?

Do we have a presenter yet? The presenter's availability and ability to be prepared is essential to the date of the presentation.
On a selfish note, I will not be back in NY until a week later. So a future time would be better for me personally (I don't know how others feel about the date).

Have used HBase in production environment with my previous employer. I can speak on introduction to hbase, but I feel Otis might be a right person to do this as well as he has an extensive experience on HBase for a while.

My knowledge of HBase is not strong enough that I would be willing to present on my own. However, if there was another person with more advanced knowledge of HBase interested in presenting together, I would take it into consideration.
