  • Hi Everyone,

    Latest Weather---> WATER: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=41.30153942253397&lon=-72.15202331542969

    Look at this view:

    WEATHER: AIR: http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KGON&state=CT

    Time to give up Kayaks, get your box of Depends, stop by Cheech and Chongs Lounge for a last refreshment and join NOAH and start paddling the ARK or join Obama and start bailing out.

    Way too soon to use any predictions from any source---> so I have no idea what the *most likely* weather or sea conditions will be till sometime late Thursday or Friday.

    With this particular weekend; it may be as late as Saturday Morning before i make a final decision. Just dont know, may not even be good for a hike or bike trip ?? Lets see how things develop.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    But might as well go ahead and plan for Saturday (Sunday back up event ? = too soon to choose what and where that may even be ?).
    This is a paddle event starting out with a grand view of the Atomic Boiler and riding the NUCLEOTIDE  to our destination of Harkniss Memorial Park for a few hours of park exploration and snack time in the shade or sun. Check out the info:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkness_Memorial_State_Park
    Once reaching the park beaching area **PLEASE PULL UP YOUR KAYAKS A SHORT WAYS PAST THE SOUTH OF THE Harkness Park OBSERVATION PLATFORM (RIGHT SIDE OF IT).
    Avoid some of the waders area also...DO NOT LAND TO THE LEFT OF THE PLATFORM since Goshen Cove is a Restricted Preserve area ..
    A LARGER PIC OF THE CHART BELOW:
    Rain, winds above 10K, or waves .Greater Than. 1- 2 feet will most likely cancel this particular location. (back up location/event is in the plan)
    TIDE INFO: NUCLEOTIDE to the destination---> and on return, have some caffeine for the PEPTIDE ride.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Getting to the Boat Ramp :
    We have to park carefully as space is limited to maybe 40 or so cars total here.
    http://www.lisrc.uconn.edu/coastalaccess/site.asp?siteid=556
    Directions apx 54 minutes from Hartford (if no beach traffic).
    APX GPS address:  # 16 DOCK ROAD, Waterford, CT.
    The Meetup* Link at the top of the page is OK and use its information to get there for your specific directions.
    Directions From Hartford should look like:
    Get onto rte 2 EAST go apx 20 miles to rte 11 South
    SINCE IT IS BEACH SEASON AND THE TRAFFIC IS USUALLY ACCUMULATING A MILE OR MORE BEFORE the end of THIS EXIT.
    I AM GOING TO SUGGEST TAKING EXIT #5 off of rte 11 for Witch meadow Rd.
    Take a left on Witch Meadow Rd and at end take a right onto RTE 85.
    Go apx 10 miles and under the Rte I-395 underpass then take the first right onto CROSS Road.
    Take a LEFT onto rte 1 (Boston  Post Road) go apx 1.6 miles)
    Take a RIGHT onto AVERY LANE  (rte 213) which turns into GREAT NECK ROAD go apx 2 miles
    Take a right onto GOSHEN RD and go to end (Shore rd-Dock Road). Unload & Park on left in the parking lot
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    The After paddling event Pot-luck BBQ location is JORDAN MILL PARK nearby.
    This is a new BBQ area that i have researched but not seen yet but seems Ok.
    http://www.lisrc.uconn.edu/coastalaccess/site.asp?siteid=134
    Bring your chairs and good food..
    apx GPS # 17 Trumbull Road Waterford
    General directions from the paddle site----
    Head back to rte 213, take a left on Great Neck Rd, go north apx 1.6 miles then take a LEFT onto Trumbull Rd. (first left after train tracks).
    Once on Trumball Lane (Go apx 0.2 miles) keep a keen eye out for another brown and white Long Island Sound public access sign posted on what at first glance looks like a private drive in-between #15 and #17 Trumbull Lane. Drive down this access road and you will find a wooded area, park carefully--al-r.
    -------------------------
    KAYAKS AVAILABLE:
    The following Kayaks come with top rated paddles and life jackets transported to the put in site but must be specifically chosen and reserved in advance:
    Boat use Doughnation is $20.00
    Note: if you reserve a kayak and i take it all the way to the site and you do not show -- you will never join us again for any event.
    These are my personal hobby boats and its asked you be sincere in showing up, besides i ask less than half of what a local shop charges and you get better equipment right at the event site's boat ramp.
    Yes i will understand  traffic may cause you to be late and if i hear of of any traffic via my GPS or by other arriving members, then we usually wait a bit longer than normal.
    Please make sure you fit in the boats and have some paddling skills (check the info of the boats in the corresponding links provided with each boat).
    I don't see times listed. I could join on Sun. I have some conflicts on Saturday that might not be resolvable. Please list approx times for starting and for ending the kayak part; I live locally and may have some teen chauffeuring to do.
