  • October 12, 2013 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hi Everyone,

Saturday: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 68. North wind 7 to 9 mph. >>> LOOKS OK ENOUGH

REMEMBER this event is at 10:00 am because it has some extra steps involved to be a successful and a good memorable day.

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ct/nwis/uv/?site_no=01189995&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060

>>>> FLOW RATE IS DOWN .. LETS GO FOR IT ANYWAY..

Since the last week's paddle event was such a smooth transition to the end of the paddling season, It feels pleasant  that things (may ??) have ended slowly and quietly with many good memories of places seen and thoughts of next year's events inspiring you to explore a few new places and return to the good favourites. Ok we will have this one as the last SPECTACULAR PADDLE  event of this year.

-------------------------

Fireside Potluck BBQ:  TBA at the paddle site:  Bring your pot luck food, chairs, and beverage of choice..Warm Clothes for later also.

I will have the usual things for the BBQ loaded up.

--------------------------

If you don't follow the plan below ..GOOD LUCK, You are on Your Own.

Farmington River from Rte 4 Farmington to Curtis Park Tarriffville Area..

APX 16-18 FAT Burning and Tortourous Nautical Miles ONE WAY DOWNSTREAM*

*(Ease + Speed depends on flow rate + Depth) !

I am hoping that its STILL close to 500 CFS by Saturday. >>> Sadly looks like its 400 ??

If you look like Miss Piggy at the end of a deep fried food Buffet Dinner Stuffing Session at our start point, you will look like a skinney and hungry Miley Cyrus at the end of this trip just in time for the BBQ as you hear and smell the sizzling meat cooking.

PUT IN LOCATION:

GPS APX # 869 FARMINGTON AVE, FARMINGTON (SMALL DRIVE WAY TO LOT BY THE RIVER AND BRIDGE)

TO-------------->

TAKE OUT LOCATION:  ... MAYBE THE SICKO TREE TAKE OUT ??? WE decide at the Put in location the morning of the event.

original plan:

CURTIS PARK (RIVERSIDE Entrance-- go to the end of dirt road)

GPS APX  # 55 TARRIFVILLE RD, SIMSBURY

LOOK AT YOUR MAP:

 http://www.bing.com/maps/?FORM=MLOMAP&PUBL=GOOGLE&CREA=userid1743gobroadfphumem2khvlw7ml8dkb3h3kcgsoxz1369#Y3A9cXlubmdrOHh6MW1qJmx2bD0xNSZzdHk9YiZydHA9cG9zLjQxLjcyODU4NV8tNzIuODI5NDc5X19fX2VffnBvcy40MS44OTgwNTVfLTcyLjc3OTEwNl9uZWFyJTIwNTUlMjBUYXJpZmZ2aWxsZSUyMFJkJTJDJTIwU2ltc2J1cnklMkMlMjBDVCUyMDA2MDcwX19fYV8mbW9kZT1EJnJ0b3A9MH4wfjB+

10:00 am - ALL - At the Put in -->Get to unloading at the rte 4 (near the s turns but by the river bridge) parking area ... GPS APX # 869 FARMINGTON AVE, FARMINGTON

This is to make sure all going know what to do in case there is some obstruction or change of take out location (unlikely but maybe) can be informed.

---

10:20am-- ALL  (but one AR-15 armed boat guard stays to guard boats and equipment) then the rest start to head to the take out.

GPS APX  # 55 TARRIFVILLE RD, SIMSBURY

Near intersection of[masked], rte 315, and Terry's Plains RD for landmarks.

---

APX 10:45 am-- Those that do not have roof racks (-and-or-) those that will be using my trailer for your boat will be driving us back to the put in.

APX 11:15 - (11:30) am-- In the water and head downstream.

APX 1:30 ?  pm - Stop at the SICKO TREE for our snack and rest break.

APX ?? Pm arrive at the take out... We LOAD UP AND TAKE THE PERSONS THAT GAVE US  THE RIDE RIGHT BACK TO THE PARKING AT THE - PUT IN - SINCE THE BBQ SPOT IS NEAR BY THERE ANYWAY ---> WE ALL WILL BE GOING THAT WAY THUS ALL DRIVE THE SAME DISTANCE IN THE END.

Seems simple to me,.. i do not want to explain this over and over to 20 people 3 times and to some 3 persons 20 times as i used to have to do years ago, while 8 or so of you can execute this perfectly..if it seems complicated - stick to the ones that know the routine. Or stay home. ?

Sadly this was the reason i stopped all one way down river trips the past few years, but if this works smoothly maybe it will be a return trip..

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I will update this event write up as time approaches since there are some variables that are of concern but things look OK as of NOW..

---------------------------------------

KAYAKS AVAILABLE:

The following Kayaks come with top rated paddles and life jackets transported to the put in site but must be specifically chosen and reserved in advance:

Boat use Doughnation is $20.00

Note: if you reserve a kayak and i take it all the way to the site and you do not show -- you will never join us again for any event.

These are my personal hobby boats and its asked you be sincere in showing up, besides i ask less than half of what a local shop charges and you get better equipment right at the event site's boat ramp.

Yes i will understand  traffic may cause you to be late and if i hear of of any traffic via my GPS or by other arriving members, then we usually wait a bit longer than normal.

Please make sure you fit in the boats and have some paddling skills (check the info of the boats in the corresponding links provided with each boat).

Missed the paddle, but not the party. Thanks Steve for opening up your home. Sitting by the fire with good friends was perfect on a fall day. And those burgers . . . who could forget those burgers!!!! Good to see Bob and Gayle again before they head to NC. Wishing them all the best!

Dam. I was looking forward to this last event. But, I too am not feeling well. I was hoping I'd wake up and be fine but I'm down for the count.
Al. Sorry to back out last minute. As I'm not going, my sister won't go alone. So two less boats for you to carry.

Dam. Screw that last message. I'm coming. I may pay for it next week, but it will be worth it. As I look out and see the sunrise and hear the geese and know soon I'll be trapped inside.

Hi Jean, I will be easy on you (everyone else too) so you wont feel too bad..this is not an aggressive paddle, more like a downstream social pace and we may take out at the Sick Tree..Medical Staff from the Barrack Hospital will cut out any illness you have ;-) Please drive carefully.
