Hi Everyone,

Its that time of year to Practice Self and Assisted Rescues prior to our OCEAN EVENTS.

Weather:

http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KHFD&state=CT

This event will have you practice Paddle Float Re-Entry and some assisted rescues with each other

Wear fast draining cloths because you will get wet..have some dry clothes ready for the Pot luck BBQ afterward.

-----------------------------------------------

Getting to the Boat Launch area:
There is a easy to reach boat launch right off of rte 44 in Bolton that has plenty of parking and PortoPotties (they should be there by then if not , Pee in the water..) . Further to the east on the lake is a beach area that would be an excellent place to sit in the sun .

Directions: to the boat launch.

Use the apx address for your GPs to get you close enough #1050 Boston Tpk Bolton

Rte 384 heading East to Bolton Notch

Continue on Rte 44 E (left part of fork) ...rte 6 is to the right
There is a traffic light with a post office and a small shopping area to the right, continue to the next light.

The next light has the boat launch to the left and a church to the right. (South street intersection)
Enter the boat launch area.

PLEASE LEAVE THE LAUNCHING CIRCLE OPEN after unloading AND PARK ON THE DESIGNATED SIDE AREAS, the DEP cops show up all the time it seems. They are looking to make some money.

If you need help during unloading we will always help you -- but we always don't know if you need help, so ask anyone to help you if you need it.

I also will have a kayak wheel thing to make transport easier if needed..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN JOIN US FOR THE SOCIALIZATION TIME AFTER AT THE POT LUCK BARBIE-Q NEARBY.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will do a Recreation Kayak vs Compartmentalized Kayak demonstration so you will understand the need to be careful for this event and all of the seasons we will be paddling. Its mostly to illiustrate what to buy so your future will be safer.

"DEPUTY---HELP HELP SINKING IN THE CRICK MUD"...

-------------------------------------------------

Then its a POT LUCK BARBIE-Q NEARBY AT Jim's Home..

Bring your chairs and some unique food..

DETAILS AND DRIVING DIRECTIONS/MAPS will be GIVEN OUT AT BOLTON LAKE ..

(its not the best thing to give out home addresses on the net).

-----------------------------------------------

For boats, Most Likely i will bring all of them but put in the water the following for the actual self rescue practice:

~~> Eddyline -- its easy to learn in this one

~~~> The Greenlander Pro just to see if you are now proficient enough for a real sea kayak
    Arrived at the Lake just as folks were packing up, so missed the yakking self-rescue part, but thanks Al for organizing this. Thanks, too, to Jim & Corrine for opening up their great home and yard for the picnic and bonfire!
    Thanks Jim and Corrine for the great party spot..
    Yeah i couldnt read the numbers on the mailbox but with a bit of help we finally got there.
    I wished i could have shown you all a few more techniques of rescue.but the time is limited and the most basic of them all most of all (paddle float re-entry) you did OK with.
    The heel hook assisted re-entry was tried with a few and that went great also.. so many more to learn and keep practising..we are now going to hit the ocean in what i call good weather and sea conditions..if it gets bad, i hope the practice comes back to help you if the conditions turn bad..yes at times good weather ends in bad weather on the return trip totally unpredicted...be ready.. Thanks Everyone for making this a great event
    First timer with the Meetup group. It was more difficult to get back into my kayak than I had imagined. I've used and mastered the hook and strap 2 person / 2 kayak rescue but this was much more difficult. I wish I weighed 125 lbs. I'm glad Tom Bedard talked me into joining the group. I look forward to the next paddle. Thanks, Jerry Imhoff
