Are you HIV Positive and looking for advice and support?
HIV isn't WHO we are, only something we are living with. While it is absolutely possible (and normal) to lead a long, healthy life with a manageable condition, there are many challenges that we face. Meet others coping with issues of:
-Depression and anxiety
-Understanding test results
-Medication and adherence
-Dating and relationships
-Sex and intimacy
-Disclosing your status to others
-Work or State Benefits
Come join us for an informal, optimistic, non-threatening chat where we can safely and discreetly discuss challenges and accomplishments of living with HIV. This peer support group is a facilitated by a fun loving guy who's been poz for over 22 years. He is not a licensed therapist and this is done independently from any organization. We're a great group of quality guys who are a wealth of information and know what it's like to live healthy with HIV. The vibe is inspirational and informative. No pressure, not awkward, and non-judgmental. Read the reviews hear what new members have said.
Meetings are held every on various nights of the week (7-8:45 pm). Check the calendar for exact dates. RSVP for location. A $10 donation is requested to help with the group fees and offer us a place to meet. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The important thing is that you attend.
Unfortunately, stigma is often an issue for us living with HIV. If you would like to join anonymously, simply create another (anonymous) meetup profile (from another email address). OR, if you have an existing profile on Meetup.com, you can click on the link "Hide my list of Meetups on my profile" (located under profile photo) - double check your other groups to be sure the box is checked off as well).
There are already several online poz communities where you can meet someone for a virtual chat; but, the focus of this Meetup group is to actually meet in person and talk face to face. Most of you have joined to "connect and meet other guys living with HIV in NYC". So I'm asking that you please attend at least one support group meeting to personally meet me and maintain your membership status with this group.
This Meetup group is made private so that only members can see your profile photo. I screen membership approval. If you feel comfortable posting your face photo, this could be a good way to connect with other guys for potential: friends, dates, or work connections. Note: This isn't a hookup site, so please keep it clean, boys (no shirtless torso pixs).
As a member, you'll be able to access the "DISCUSSIONS" TAB (located on the top tool bar) for useful links, information, and announcements.
Looking to meet other poz guys? There is a social group for HIV+ guys. Sign up for their newsletter for various happenings in the NYC area: pozalliance.org/subscribe/

Generally, the age range of this support group is early 20's to late 40's and is geared more towards the newly diagnosed. If you're a long-term survivor, luckily we're in the year 2016 with resources available to us in NYC. You shouldn't have to deal with your HIV challenges alone. The following are groups for those who have been living with HIV for an extended period of time:
The Center’s Positive Lifestyle at The Center on 13th Street NYC
Long Term Survivors resources and services offered at GMHC
The Friends in Deed HIV Long-Term Survivors Discussion Group located at GMHC
The Buddy Program at GMHC connects clients (from newly diagnosed to long-term survivors) with Buddy volunteers who provide support such as errands and socialization.
