436 East Golf Road Schaumburg, IL 60173 (map)
Connie's Pizza at 23rd & Archer, in Chicago, and has ample parking in their lot.
October winners - Promo codes went out about 15 minutes ago. Enjoy!
Very nice. Far for me, but fun. I thought the group photos of us and the phones was a great idea and looking forward to seeing it.
I'd like to share App ideas! Bring your TouchPads and Veers, and we can use our mojo to dissect enyo and node.js
There will be plenty of developers, but a couple of Veers and Even Pre 3's. Epic Winning!
Pre 3's?! Who has a Pre 3?! This I must see!!
Hopefully mine comes before the meet ;)
I NEED to see this Pre 3!!!!
Might be able to make that happen :)
I'm running late. Be there about 7:30. Got a New Fan with me. Don't let that Pre 3 leave, til I get there!
This meetup is at FUDDRUCKER'S NOT CONNIE's. There's about a 50 mile difference, so please be sure to plan accordingly. Schaumburg, not Chinatown.
So the meet up will be at Connie's Pizza?
Nonono. The meetup is at Fuddrucker's in Schaumburg. Connies was suggested as a location early on, but once the final location was set, meetup.com decided not to let anyone change it.
Hey, glad to see someone started this up! I'll try to make it, but Scumburg is a little out of the way, and in the Chicago metro area all roads (and trains) lead to downtown...
yes we did. it's intersting if a bit ominous. Not a fan of Amazon owning webOS, but we'll just have to see...
@Lee - We'll get downtown eventually. Never fear. Matter of fact, I just put a parking spot down there on layaway. Just a few more months of payments, and I'll have saved up for the first hour!
FYI Folks - the map above is still showing Moretti's. We ARE going to Fuddrucker's. Reservation is once again under "HP WebOS".
I think we should work on a letter, to send to Meg Whitman, about what we think she should do with HP!! I know this is already being done on PreCentral and WOR, but maybe as a group, we can motivate each other to do this. Our Voices Need To Be Heard!!!
I think I posted this already, but can I get Alex to update the page with the office place?
Fuddrucker's 436 East Golf Road Schaumburg, IL 60173
Reservation for 20 made for 7:00 under the name HP webOS. No credit card needed.
Sounds Good! But, do they have wi-fi? And yeah, the map at the top of the page, has not been updating.
Going on vacation so I can't make this one. BTW, the map at the top of the page, still shows the Moretti's location, not Connie's.
Looks like I am going out of town and will miss the meetup. As a consolation I can make a promo code for Squirrel Step Plus for Chicago webOS meetup folks, if yall are interested.
So here's what I'm thinking - Let's change the venue, but not the location just yet. I'll look into coffee shops/panera type places in the Schaumburg area, and find a place in the next few days. What I'll be looking for is a more coffee house type environment with stable wifi. Of course, shifting away form a restaurant means this isn't so much a dinner and a "Coffee" type event.
Well that sounds cool!! Moretti's was fine, just that we were out in the open, and I guess the wi-fi wasn't so great. But I'll bring my "Overdrive 4G Mobile Hotspot", so atleast 4 other people can get online!! ;-)
There's a coffee place I've gone to on Golf that had free WiFi. However, it seems they've gotten new management and have taken a turn for the worse.
The Starbucks at Streets of Woodfield is actually quite spacious and has nooks where we could gather. I'm not sure if they'll let you reserve certain spaces however as it is a coffee shop.
Hey!! You guys hear the latest news about Leo?! There's New Hope for webOS!!!
Yes! Read about him yesterday! Good riddance!
Well, let's hope we have a LOT to talk aobut at our next meetup - http://www.webosroundup.com...
We WILL have alot to talk about!! This webOS stuff, thanks to HP, has turned into a Soap Opera!! ;-)
Shameless self promotion here. I'm about to release my new game, "Power Lines" to the app catalog in the next few weeks and wanted to give ChiWebOS followers a crack at a free pre-release copy. It is a multiplayer game that you play on one device (app supports the TouchPad as well as Veers, Pres, and Pixis) with up to 4 people. Simple, straightforward, classic fun. None. None whatsoever. :) I can only hope my shame will be forgiven because of giving away free stuff.
Posting here too:Would those planning to attend future meetups shoot me an email/DM w/ your zip code? I want to get an idea of where everyone is coming from.addy is chiwebosmeetup (at) gmail (dot) com - be sure to also include your twitter ID if you have one so I can make sure I follow you too.
I live on the north side of Chicago, right off of the north-branch of the Chicago river, my zip is 60659, surrounding streets: Lincoln, McCormick, Kedzie, Devon, Peterson. I live in a small shopping center with a Panera, plenty of parking available. [masked] No twitter (don't know how to use-yet)
well howdy neighbor!
From the zip codes I've gotten thus far, everyone is north of Grand Ave, except for one who, if they were any further south, they'd have a crop of coffee beans in their back yard. Please send in zip codes if you haven't already. If you have, and you're more than 10 miles from the Edison Park area, also send in your work zip code. Right now, it looks like the area that is circled by I-90 and I-290 is going to be our best bet.
Oak Park is Cool! A café is a good idea too! A Panera Bread or something similar would also be cool! BUT, parking isn't very cool in Oak Park! What about Oak Brook? Or, just move itt to a café in Schaumburg.

Let's not editorialize or have discussion in the "More details" field. I went ahead and pared it down to the relevant facts.
Also, a reminder that the time, date, and place are not final just yet, and can (and perhaps will) change.
It's good to have placeholders though.
I'm thinking this time around, let's look more north, or northeast. I don't wanna drag poor Rod halfway across the world, but maybe a Glenview/Northbrook type location might work better for more of us. I'm open to suggestion. I know Brian was looking for a more move-aroundable location, so maybe more of a bar-type establishment, or party room area.
In the opposite direction, In the Oak Park area, my wife's uncle owns a bar that has a party room IIRC. Comments? Suggestions?
I like the Glenview/Northbrook ideas not so much Chicago. I don't really like driving/parking in the city it's always such a pain!
Well, there's a Begger's Pizza, that's farther South, that's really nice, but I just assummed that it would be Too Far South for most people. Connie's Pizza has a parking lot, and should be more Central for everyone.
As for time and date, if we are keeping this monthly, we could do a first Friday of the month schedule (because I love alliteration). 7 on Friday seems to be a decent time for most.
I'd recommend the Yard House at the Glen in Glenview: http://www.theglentowncente...
