TVO’s IdeaShaker Innovation Lab: Developing for LeapMotion using HTML & CreateJS

TVO will be launching “Caterpillar Count for Leap Motion” when Airspace, Leap Motion’s store launches in the end of July.  The IdeaShaker, TVO’s Innovation Lab took a current Flash based children’s game, modified it for HTML5, added gesture capabilities and spent a few days testing the game with children.

We will be walking through the development of our Leap Motion HTML5 game from: export/conversion of Flash assets, development in Javascript, implementation of LeapJS, and many lessons learned about developing gesture games for children.

For those of you not in Toronto, we will have a video stream of the event live.

David Neumann – Manager, IdeaShaker Innovation Lab
Paul McMonagle – Lead Developer – IdeaShaker Innovation Lab
Yohei Yamaguchi – Developer – IdeaShaker Innovation Lab

Don’t forget about our 1,500 member give-aways this month! Each week we are giving away something to a person on each of our lists (in no particular order):

We have now confirmed Polar Mobile for the venue and it can comfortably seat 100 people!

There will be a $5.00 charge to the ticket again as it worked out very well ensuring that there were minimal cancellations and no-shows. Event proceeds will go towards food and beverages (non-alcoholic) for attendees.

the talk was great, the in depth look into the technology was great, but I was underwhelmed by the app that they built. They basically just replaced the mouse with the leap.

Many thanks to Matthew and the IdeaShaker crew (and sponsors - nice digs Polar!) for a truly inspiring evening. Next steps for 3D testing of Leap? I say Zaxxon!

Fun, and show the basic leap motion can do. well done. Broader my Horizon. And give me hints on the RequireJS. But i think this product will be in 3D area more dominant since the characteristic of the leap motion.

A great introduction to Leap Motion, with an in depth look at the thoughts behind development, as well as a good look at the code. A fun evening that was well organized. Tonight's event has shown a glimpse of a very exciting time in technology advancement!

Excellent meetup on all fronts - great presentation with very "actionable content" for developers, the sponsors were exciting institutions to discover, amazing give away prizes, plenty of wonderful people to network with and even great refreshments. Hats off to Matthew for organizing this!

Why am I getting the following message when I visit leapmotion.com?

    "Application Error

An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. Please try again in a few moments.

If you are the application owner, check your logs for details."

1500 visitors is nothing for a web server. They should hire qualified people to run web site. Or, do not launch it at all. It is not a joke.

I doubt it was our members. They have international viewership and developers. Likely just a peak in traffic world-wide. Everything seems smooth now.

Just a suggestion - Pioneering a Mobile Photo App was held at the Spoke Club last week. Cool venue that may be appropriate size.

    1 · May 8, 2013

    • Matthew P.

I know the Spoke club! I’ll absolutely look into that as I know a member or two. Great idea.

      May 8, 2013

    • Laurence T. R.

Spoke worked very well. It's about the right size for 100 or less. Just be sure that their microphone is working. They were having technical issues with that throughout the talk on the mobile app.
