Hack Night at Carbon Five LA

Carbon Five LA bi-weekly, intimate hack night for developers who want to code and collaborate for a couple of hours after work. Bring your own project or work with someone else. Developers of all experience levels are welcome. There will be at least a couple Carbon Five folks around to help out.

The JavaScript Event Loop: Explained

Erin Swenson-Healey, Developer, Carbon Five

In this talk I'd like to give an overview of the JavaScript runtime's event loop and how its design impacts the way you write your code.

I'll try to keep it short, but hope to hit on:

• synchronous versus asynchronous operations (adding frames to the stack versus queuing messages for later)

• why closures are important for asynchronous, event-driven programming

• testing approaches in an async-heavy environment (removing
asynchronicity at runtime)

Doors open around 6pm and we'll keep hacking until 9pm (sometimes later). Bring your laptop and a project to work on. We'll provide the infrastructure, food, and beverages.
