Hack4Sac - Code for Sacramento

Join us for pizza and code! All volunteers--civic enthusiasts, coders, designers, and data wranglers--are welcome!

On Hack4Sac nights, we work on apps and data. Currently, we're building a brand new Drupal site (shout out to Sac DUG for joining and supporting us!) which will help you track our current projects and find ways to get involved!

And we've also got some other great projects in the que, such as:

- SAC's OPEN DATA PORTAL! - contribute some data, or use some data to make something great.

- 2013 GREAT AMERICAN CIVIC HACK! - Coders, read all about this Code for America initiative here. Fork any one of seven repos (including CKAN!) to tackle bugs and close out issues. This is a great opportunity to code on something that matters.

- OPEN STREET MAP!!! - We're using Open Street Map--the free, open source, "Wikipedia" of maps--to build Sacramento's geodata layer. And our first project is FOOD! You don't need to be a coder to contribute to Open Street Map; we'll teach you everything you need to know. Join us and help build a resource that will benefit EVERYONE in our community!

And of course, you can always bring your own project to work on =)

Drop by anytime from 7-9pm. See you then!

It was a wonderful meeting, in the sense that it was a group of people who have the common goal of donating their time to provide data and apps for people.

Unfortunately, it also made me aware just how much of a <A HREF="http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Dunsel"; TARGET="parent">Captain Dunsail</A>. I've become within this world; it was one thing to feel that way about the general world, but I always fooled myself into thinking there was something I could still contribute to <EM>this</EM> aspect of the world. Seriously, as someone who was trying to justify a reason for my place in this world, I thank you for the 'wake up call' and forcing me to take off my 'Google glasses' and see that, even in trying to volunteering, there really is <B>nothing</B> I can contribute within this 'brave new digital world'.

I wish you all the best of luck in your adventures and I thank you for sharing some of your time with me.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
