Introduction to Auto Desk Maya and Game Asset Development

What is a Maya? Is high power modeling program used by most main stream game and film studios to develop assets that are later than implemented into a game engine or film scene. You

How will this class be structured?

Introduction: I will introduce the ideas and concepts of the class day
Modeling lector: Will demonstrate and speak on either tools or methods of modeling
Game asset development lector: I will speak and demonstrate the ideas and concepts for creating models to be implemented in games.
In class mini assignment: The class will work together to finish a basic assignment that is based on the class lectors

This class meets a total of 4 times over 4 weeks. Class dates: 11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21. 

How should students prepare?

Students should for this class should either have Maya installed on their personal computer or laptop, or go online and download the free student version of Autodesk Maya. In addition to the Maya software they if possible should get either Photoshop or Autodesk Mud Box, both are not mandatory but will give them the ability to expand their abilities to create effective game assets, and build skill levels. They should also bring a note book, and small or regular drawing pad to the class every class session.

What will you get out of this lesson?

Students will be able to effectively navigate the basics of Maya and have a basic understanding of game modeling methodology. They will also leave the class with a introductory look into what is expected in creating game assets and reading them for implementation.

Teacher Bio

Andrew Davis is a local game asset developer for a local game group and loves to teach and expand not only his own knowledge base but that of others. He is an American river graduate and holds associates in the Arts and new media. He also is a free lancing asset developer and Digital artis.
