This course is offered monthly through the Hacker Lab, to help you with the basics of starting a new business. Everything from getting your business license to setting up your bookkeeping and keeping track of tax information. Learn some easy, cheap ways to keep the business side running, so you can focus on the fun stuff!

In this 2-hour workshop, you will learn quick and easy ways to set up your bookkeeping, bill your clients, write checks, get affordable legal support, and learn some basic tips for handling taxes. These things can be easy if you set them up at the beginning. Otherwise, they end up costing a lot in the long run. Even if all you want are templates for simple client contracts and some good ideas on handling your taxes, make sure to attend!
About the Teacher: Michele Livingston worked for 18 years in the tech industry before retiring to the “soft arts”. She and a partner ran a small software consulting ﬁrm for over 10 years. Once the bookkeeping was set up, she says it was simple! You will get the complete basics, from balancing the books to writing simple legal documents. Sheʼs had a lot of practice running a new company on a shoestring, and can guide you to the free and online tools that saved her time and money.
