Well then, that's a wrap - all you lovely people are, well, lovely. Thanks for making another memorable night! Folks came from as far out as Hamilton and Montreal - kudos to them for making the trip. Hitherto and henceforth, in the wise words of that really awesome tech dude, 'always match your RAM'!

if you have something to tell to everyone in Toronto(3million people), in realtime. better than TV, radio. what would you do? if I have a tool for that, how would you market it?

      Amr Malik,

You have just shown us why you deserve to be considered a malik. Well done!

      Peter,

I agree with you that well targeted informative advertising is a better idea than random shotgun style spam.

Still your false claim that spam doesn't work is one more data point for the theory that when people shout in caps what they are shouting is likely to be some piece of made-up nonsense. Why would spam exist if it didn't work?

Guys, it was very nice to meet you at the event last night. If i didn't get around to meeting all of you, I apologize - it's very difficult with that many personalities in the room. I am looking for a network engineer (L1 through L4) and am looking for the right fit. A big thank you to the event organizers, I think I drank more waters than the 10$ covered.

    Cheers.

Hi there. Is there parking available at the venue ?

    May 26, 2013

    • Oz N.

There is a reasonably priced parking lot on Jarvis just south of Front St. on the left hand side (going south). I usually park there and I believe it's $5 from 6 pm - 6 am. Hope that helps

      2 · May 27, 2013

    • HackerNest A.

Think that is Green P parking! And also, street parking eases up in the evening, but not sure if it is paid till 9pm or later.

      May 27, 2013

  • David L.

I've just changed my RSVP since I noticed the "voluntary donation." If it costs money to run this thing, why don't you simply charge $10 admission? The phrase "voluntary donation" is on its face offensive: if it was voluntary, you wouldn't know what the amount was, would you? -dlj.

    2 · May 27, 2013

    • Brent S.

Now I'm lost. Are we talking about how the voluntary donation is offensive or Rob Ford?

      2 · May 27, 2013

    • HackerNest A.

      David,

Yes, it does cost money to run this. Lots of it. Voluntary donations are voluntary - because we're open, welcoming, and want everyone to be able to access their local tech community regardless of economic status. We get tons of students.

The Meetup interface lacks a "pay what you can" setting, so we put our suggested amount in. Anyone can RSVP and attend. Unless they're not nice.

      RSVP noted. Good luck.

Hi there, I'm a lawyer with experience in tech, intellectual property, gaming and licensing. I met such great people at the event last month with Girls in Tech that I decided to join and come back for more! I'm interested in learning what kinds of projects people are working on. If you have any questions about your project, IP, or licensing please look for me and say 'hi'! Hmmmm, I should probably put up a better picture...

Right now I am just looking to form a team of people from different areas developer/marketing, once the idea is put into paper/ppt , next step will be to look for venture capitalist who can invest.

Looking forward to meet people and share idea ( Hope my idea will strike people :)

Hey folks, I'm 75% of the way to my fundraising goal and need a final boost to put us over the top. My students are developing a website (and apps) to connect donors with food banks and pantries, improving the quality and quantity of food donated. Could you please retweet this or #donate and help us gain the last 25% of the funding we need for this #charity project! https://www.microryza.com/projects/farm-to-fork #guelph #kwawesome

Sadly I won't be in town so cannot attend. But if anyone is interested, I'm starting a new Toronto-based non-profit that aims to develop ultra low cost tablets loaded with educational content to leapfrog education in rural areas of developing countries. I'll need all the help I can get - so if this sounds like your kind of thing, please send me a note!

    2 · May 21, 2013

    • David L.

Tariq, Both are pieces of software, bsically fairly sophisticaed flash-card systems, but the important point is that both of them have large communities of developers behind them, so the material is good quality -- better than most commercial stuff -- and users can always join up with friends they make through the community to incrase their learning possibilities.
