HackerNest Toronto April Tech Social

Newbie? Tech Socials are friendly gatherings where smart nerds (mostly tech, but all nice folk are welcome) actually make new friends (not just "network", defined as 'look for people to impress so you can use them someday'). No hidden agenda/sales pitch; just 10 minutes of sponsor intros. Bring party socks.

Veteran? If HackerNest has helped you find a job/partner/hire/best bud/accomplice etc., tell us at [masked] to possibly get featured and become interwebs-famous! Also, bring a newbie.

Rough lineup:

- 8pm: show up, grab drink, chat up nerds
- 9pm-ish: couple words, sponsor intros
- 9:12pm-ish: back to fantastic conversations
- 11:15pm-ish: we all get booted and go home, exhausted from crazyfuntalking all night

Newstacular:

- HN now in 15+ cities worldwide
HN Construct in February (thanks for hosting, DMZ!) was Canada's largest hardware hackathon (some winners will be in a WSJ video segment soon-ish)
- HN Construct #2 (November 2014) will be the world's largest hardware hackathon... yea!
- ...on that note, we always need volunteers in various roles; wanna help out? ^_^

<SPECIAL SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY PARAGRAPH>

    Hello World!

    1 · May 17, 2014

  • Mike G.

Im new to Hackernest and am looking for a CTO/cofounder to lead a team of developers for my new company that doesn't have a name yet. But don't let the lack of a name fool you, it is by design so when we get the team together we can come up with a name that everyone can have input in. I have funding, work space and a completed business plan. I know the market and I know where I want to take this. The CTO has to be a person that can keep ahead of the curve and recognize trends in order to see the business opportunities to drive the company forward. In order to do so, they would have to have a good understanding of the market, but more importantly be able to lead and inspire to get the most out of the rest of the development team. Im all about creating the right team so we can develop some kick ass technology and have a blast doing it.

Im targeting the sports, travel, and tourism industry for the time being but thats just the start. Im wanting to create some disruptive technology that takes marketing technology to a whole other level.

Hey everyone! Just moved to Toronto and looking forward to meeting up.

I'm a ex- founder/CTO with two exits, and now I devote my expertise to helping others get their projects off the ground.

I am looking for mentoring/advising opportunities. I also do a lot of freelancing/consulting -- I particularly enjoy developing prototypes and MVPs for new ideas and new companies in Ruby on Rails (which I've worked with for 8 years now).

Look for me tonight and say hi!

It'll be my first time going to a HackerNest event. My start is called Lokafy. Lokafy connects passionate locals with travellers looking for an authentic experience, like having a friend show you around the city. Check it out: http://lokafy.com/

If you love to travel (who doesn't?), I'd love to hear from you. I have a script for a startup explainer video that I'm looking to get feedback on. Other than that the main challenge right now is marketing, please find me if you have skills in that area. I'm looking forward to connecting with you all, and hearing about the exciting projects you're working on.

    Hello!
I'm new here and looking for a young tech-savvy individual to join us on our new venture. We're called Kahoots. We have two founders but not a lick of knowledge when it comes to development! We have a development team at Ryerson currently building our website for us, but we want to bring in a third founder of the 'tech' variety. Looking for full time commitment. We do have funding and desk space in Ryerson Futures, locate in the Digital Media Zone in Dundas Square. Come say hi at the event if you're interested! And check out our Facebook page in the mean time! https://www.facebook.com/Kahootss

We've been to a few of these before - good times! Our startup, sourced.fm, is in the music/tech space so naturally we love meeting people who love music. We're gearing up for funding this summer (the site is fully armed and operational) and first up for a FT contract is a developer. The founder, Brandon, is our CEO/CTO and built everything from the ground up using a very slick custom php framework, which I'm sure he'd be delighted to tell you more about on Monday. Our ideal full stack dev would work directly with Brandon and also have some mad database/big data skills.

If we don't cross paths on Monday, we're super active and reachable via the forums on sourced.

    Cheers!

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and my startup - Sportan. Check us out here: www.sportan.com.

We're a Indiegogo-successful startup looking to potentially recruit our CTO. We're extremely close to launch (around 1 month), so it's now or never for us!

    Looking forward to meeting everyone!
