HackerNest Vancouver March Tech Social

HackerNest arrived in Vancouver with an awesome reception - Aaron from Conquer Mobile + Vancouver iDevelopers and Michael from Sanotron + Hacking Health injected us with a healthy dose of cross-pollination (iOS / JS / Health / Hacking).

Monday's event is a part two of sorts - Michael Bidu's call out for participation in Hacking Health brought out some of Vancouver's  finest, and it turns out Aaron and Owen Mead (who's @awesense these days), both of whom have given the HackerNest love by coming out, were the victors of the Hacking Health challenge - Do you see the trend forming? (here or here).

We know we attract some of the best makers/hackers/technologists - (ex. here) - Some of us are even putting on events with a slightly more executive feel (ex. here). Point is, we are working very hard to create a very strong, united Canadian Tech scene that is internationally recognized and brimming w/ brilliant people - without barriers, without hangers on.

Grow to be at least 92% radder just by coming out on Monday and telling our Vancouver Tech Community we are together now. Bring a n00b - Really there are no rules besides not being a *douchebag and actually being involved/interested in Technology.

Uniting tech communities, one tech social at a time.

Have awesome tech to demo? We want to hear from you!

Have a Tech Event to promo? Take a a few seconds and tell people about it right after the Demo's. Just ask an organizer at the event.

Hiring (at an awesome tech company)? Companies like Amazon.com, Awesense and other's that don't start with an "A" have used Tech Socials to find awesome talent - So you'd be in good company by doing a shout out after the demos - Hit an organizer up to get in the que.

Great event guys. I am wondering if the presenters of the superb medical solution could provide me some resources for that patent process they underwent? Much appreciated :)

Hey Daniel, hit me up for questions any time. [masked]
The process is detailing the invention in whatever way makes it clear to someone to recreate it. You can put in source code, diagrams, detailed breakdowns. Then look for the electronic filing options at the USPTO. Look specifically for the auto-load SB16 form, you need Adobe Reader to fill it in. I filed a "Provisional Utility Patent" and loaded up the needed docs. As long as you take the time read and be educated about each step, it's fairly straight forward. Took 1.5 days for writing out a really detailed, and consistent, provisional patent document. Proof read that a bunch of times. Then a half day figuring out the filing system. Man, what a mess of a website, but once you find the main track of getting it done and paid it takes under 15min.

Awesome to see to see a high caliber crowd growing and coming together in the Vancouver Tech community - So many creators coming together is something I'm really lucky to be around.

Expect a room with free beer, brilliant people, a super-casual atmosphere, a demo with a free-for-all conversation, an announcement or two about stuff for the Tech Community to participate in.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
