TL;DR  Tech talk on scalable web infrastructure as a service.

  • Get $6,000 of free web hosting over  6 months
  • Talk to Telemachus, if you'd be interested in a pure SSD based scriptable cloud VPS
  • BTW...  H/F doesn't get kickbacks or affiliate fees from NephoScale.  We just like the service

--------------------

A couple years ago when I was in "build a search engine" mode, I spent a lot of time nerdgasming about high availability infrastructure, scalability, etc...

I've been rolling my own PC's, boxes and servers for a while, and frankly, it's ton of fun.

I was also frustrated at the lack of SSD based offerings with cloud services.  AWS and EC2 have painfully low IOPS on their vanilla Elastic Block.

So, I wanted a provider that offered SSD based dedicated servers as well as scriptable cloud VPS as well.

I ended up choosing NephoScale.

Telemachus is the founder and CTO, and we've spent a ton of time talking about these topics.  Telemachus has been doing infrastructure stuff for well over a decade. Bruce his co-Founder landed Industrial Light and Magic's ( yeah, that I.L.M. ) network services contract in a past life and is a total baller.

I love what they're doing.

So, we've worked with NephoScale to offer H/F startups that qualify in our community $6k worth of free hosting. ( H/F Perks Invite link here) and asked Telemachus to give a Tech Talk. Hope you learn a lot. -- Jonathan

Tech Talk was very good! It was great to listen to the CTO of Infrastructure as a Service company talk about what goes on behind the scenes in the hosting industry. Very informative.

Sales talk not even thinly disguised.

The talk had good baseline material which was well organized, but the presentation was a bit dry. I suggest more imagery, diagrams, etc... Also, the speaker read directly from notes. Try to ad-lib a bit more. Try not to read the content on the slides verbatim since people in the audience can read faster than you can speak and you'll start to lose your audience. :-)
