Simple tools for organizational transparency

I'd love to get a group together and do this as a Kickstarter project. I'd like to see if we can create some super simple web based tools that let anyone - charitable organization, event website, etc - publish their finances in a totally transparent way: what the bank balances are, who's taking money out and putting money in, to what use, and so on. I think if we made it easy enough we could bring a whole new level of transparency!

Aside from the banks opening up their API for third party access like this, this is similar to the platform (just anonymize the name) @ http://campaign.primtings.com (details @ http://bit.ly/9tpRX2)

I think mint.com has proven that financial information can be centrally tracked. I don't use mint, but I would imagine that if they had a "publish" button that would be the whole story. Not to imply there shouldn't be an open source competitor, because there should.

Also worth checking out, bitcoin is a financial system that achieves stability through transparency. For instance, you can see all transactions with the EFF here http://blockexplorer.com/address/1MCwBbhNGp5hRm5rC1Aims2Y...

Fernando, thanks for posting this! Sounds very cool. I have a longtime interest in transparency, although I've focussed my ideas more on ratings than on financial reporting. ( Some thoughts here: http://enlightenedstructure.org/trust-exchange )

I'd be very happy to meet up around this, and also to chat about ideas and projects in general.

Throwing out a suggestion for time and place. I can vouch for the Crossroads Cafe as a place I've been to before for meetups. But by all means, give alternatives. I'd like to finally engage with this group.

Great gathering! We ended up talking mostly about creative collaboration projects -- we found out that a few of us were working on similar projects, and we planned to set up future collaborations.
