On Saturday Feb. 23, Texas State students in the SXTXState.com project will be hacking away at the Ushahidi platform for the SXTXStories project (you can see details of the course at sxproject.cindyroyal.net). Ushahidi is an open source platform that allows you to easily set up a mobile, mapping application. It's PHP/MySQL-based and also has its own iPhone application to host deployments and code samples for iPhone and Android custom applications.
We'll be hacking all day, but we want to invite you to stop by to see what we are doing between 1-4pm. We'll be doing short presentations at the top of each hour, and then we'll be working on the platform with the help of our two experts, Brandon Rosage of Ushahidi and Blair Mundy of Catch Marketing Services.
If you're a developer, we could use your expertise. But even if you're not, we'd love for you to drop by to check out what we are doing. We'll have snacks, drinks, beer all day provided by a generous grant from AEJMC and the Knight Foundation.
Here's the schedule for the afternoon. Each presentation will be about 10 minutes long. In between, we'll be working, but you can chat with the experts and other developers who attend.
1pm Intro to Ushahidi Project/Mobile Development - Cindy Royal and Megan Kilgore
2pm Design Issues Emily Lyons
3pm Social Media Strategy for SXTXState.com and STXStories.com - Brittany Black
4pm Content Strategies - Sara Peralta and Kiana Fitzgerald
Come on out to Capital Factory and support these students as they work on this cutting-edge project.
