But what does it mean?! This year saw many big changes in the media landscape in Honolulu. We saw the birth of HuffPost Hawaii, the demise of Honolulu Weekly, and the domination of the dreaded listicle. So what does this mean for the media industry and those who care about it?
The Offsetter and Interisland Terminal seek to answer this and many other questions in DEADLINE, a film and panel series that will look at the elements facing journalism today, starring many of your favorite Honolulu journalists, editors, publishers, and news junkies!
Film in the series: "Good Night, and Good Luck", starring George Clooney and David Strathairn, about Edward R. Murrow's public quest against Joseph McCarthy; the recent documentary about the New York Times plagiarist and liar Jayson Blair, "A Fragile Trust"; and the classic Redford/Hoffman dream team in "All The President's Men".
We're also printing a collection of essays by Elizabeth Kiezkowski of the Star Advertiser, Ke‘ōpūlaulani Reelitz of Mana Magazine, Jason Ubay of Hawaii Business, James Cave of the Offsetter, Gene Park of Civil Beat, Burt Lum of HPR, Ikaika Hussey of the Hawaii Independent, Jared Kuroiwa of KHON, and Jackie Perriera of Ka Leo.
