The Cape Town chapter of HacksHackers will host a public DataLiberation meetup between 6pm and 8pm on September 14 (Friday), at Google's new Umbono technology lab in Woodstock.
Visiting German open data activist and data journalism trainer, Friedrich Lindenberg, will share easy tips and tools to help even non-techies stay ahead of the curve.
Lindenberg will also talk about his work at the Open Knowledge Foundation, where he leads the www.OpenSpending.org team in Germany that creates international tools for making financial data accessible. In addition to his OFK work, Lindenberg is the author of Adhocracy, a collaborative drafting software used by the Internet commission of the German Bundestag and several political parties to enable citizens to contribute to policy documents.
www.AfricanNewsChallenge.org manager, Justin Arenstein, will also be at the meeting to chat about the 40 projects that have just been shortlisted for $1m in seed funding. The finalists include a number of journalist-led projects from Cape Town, including a HacksHackers proposal to establish a ScrakerWiki helpdesk in the city to help journalists improve their investigative and analytical reporting.
There will be snacks & drinks & networking afterwards. If you plan to attend, please sign-up below & give us a bit more info about yourself so that we know who'll be in the room.
