#HHRoc - Welcome to new members, ongoing projects, upcoming meetings

Hi everyone,
Welcome to all the members who have joined since our last meeting in March.
While we have not recently met in person, there have been a number of activities going on in the background that I'd like to fill you in on. We have been talking with the Innovation Trail (http://innovationtrai...) about some type of collaboration between the Trail, folks at RIT, the Syracuse Chapter of Hacks/Hackers and us. Hopefully we'll have more on this soon.
Last Tuesday, a number of folks from #HHRoc went down to Syracuse to talk about Data Drive Journalism and news hacking at an Innovation Trail Event. You can read more about the event here:
You can see the deck we presented (which includes links to some current Hacks/Hackers:Rochester projects) here:
So, that's recent history. Let's talk about the future!
# #HHRoc on reddit
Chris Horn has set up a subredit for us to track links and relevant stories and tutorials. Please join up and start adding content:
# Topics for future meetings
We are looking for suggestions for meeting topics. Are there specific news hacking/data visualization skills that you want to develop? Please don't be shy in asking. Part of our goal is to organize educational sessions.
On that note, do you have something that you are itching to teach? It doesn't have to be technical, btw. For example a lot of hackers have expressed interest in understanding how a story comes together and what the heck an inverted pyramid is.
Or, if you're a Hack, and are interested in getting help with a story idea, please get in touch and we'll look into how we can help you.
The first step is to reach out and get in contact with us.
# Hacking meetups
We currently have a couple projects that Tim Duffy has been leading. He's always looking for some help with the code (most of it's available at our GitHub page - ). Would folks be interested in getting together for beers and coding once a month at a local watering hole with WiFi?
# Planning help
If anyone is interested in joining the #HHRoc steering committee, please reply and we'll be happy to put you to work!
I think that's about it for the moment. Hope everyone is having a happy summer. I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you soon,
- Matt Bernius
