This talk is an introduction to HBase targeted at a technical/developer crowd. The talk will describe why we need HBase, how it fits into the Hadoop ecosystem, and how it compares to other solutions currently out
there. We will go into both the physical and conceptual architectural details of HBase, and do a quick tour of the client API. A simple example will be used to help describe the differences of HBase as compared to more traditional database systems, especially when it comes to scale. The current state of the project as well as future roadmap will be outlined.

About the speaker:
Jonathan Gray is an HBase committer and has been using HBase in production for nearly two years at his startup, Streamy.com. Gray is currently working as an independent software consultant, supporting companies with the design and implementation of systems utilizing HBase as well as Hadoop, Lucene, and other related technologies.
