The Scottish thinkers/philosophers of the 18 Century had a huge influence worldwide due of course to the Scottish diaspora. Their fundamental assertion was that human reason and not the dictates of some deity, lead humans 'to be' and 'to act' out of goodness and to strive for the betterment of society. Men like David Hume, Adam Smith as well a Robert Burns had huge influence during the Scottish Enlightenment.
Definitely not....its interesting to note that when the scientist Lawrence Kruaus was recently at the Centre for Enquiry in Toronto he undertook to begin investigating what humans actually experience when they talk about spirituality. Also Sam Harris, in "The End of Faith" makes mention of the neurochemical changes which take place in the brain when a person is having a 'spiritual' experience.
Hello to all....I finally got help to post a picture of myself! I'm looking forward to attending more meetings and getting involved in the community.
