Too intimidated to go to a gym? Like the outdoors? Want to be encouraged to live healthier? Looking to get out of the house to meet new people while getting in shape? Hamden Walks is a program designed to encourage ANYONE to come out and just walk!
This is a group for anyone interested in walking, hiking, fitness, and exercise. Although we focus on New Haven County walks, we may sometimes walk in other parts of Connecticut. We also participate in guided walking tours in different towns as we hear about them. Our organizers walk at varying degrees of difficulty from easy, tourist-level walks to power walks, hiking, and even some rock climbing. We will describe accurately the degree of difficulty of our walks, so please read our listings carefully. We hope to appeal to a broad range of walkers.
A photo is now required for membership. Please have a photo of yourself, not your pet, a cartoon, or another image. Effective 9/30/14, people who sign up without a proper photo will be removed from the list until they post a photo of themselves.
Although this is a group for walkers at many levels, we are not medically trained for emergencies; therefore, we cannot accommodate people with medical issues that may create an emergency during the walk. Organizers reserve the right to turn a member away from our walks (for safety reasons) if we believe the member has a health issue that may be exacerbated by the walk, causing an emergency.
There is an optional "Chip In" button for donations. Please donate and keep this group running. Meetup charges organizers a fee to use the website, so please help out.
This is an incredible way to meet other people who enjoy being outdoors and working toward a healthy, active lifestyle. Join us on one of our walks!
DISCLAIMER: We walk as a group of friends. By way of attendance at our events, members and their guests agree that Hamden Walks and its organizers and event hosts will not be held liable for any injury/illness while walking or attending the event. Members walk at their own risk and need to ensure that they are fit enough and adequately prepared before attempting the walk.
